2008:

Erich Schmitz, a freshman from Lake Forest, Ill., is expected to make an immediate impact on the 2008 season. Schmitz, one of 17 gymnasts looking to crack the Husker lineup, nabbed a preseason spot on the still rings lineup.

"We recruited Erich to help build the still rings lineup," Head Coach Francis Allen said. "He is also a good competitor on vault and floor exercise, so we hope to get him collegiate experience on those events as well."

Prior: A standout performer for Buffalo Grove Gymnastics, Schmitz competed in the Illinois High School Association state gymnastics competition in 2006, where he placed second on vault and helped his team to a third-place finish.

Personal: Erich was born on July 19, 1987, to Rex and Deborah Schmitz. Erich is an architecture major at Nebraska.
