2022 (Junior)
McKinney earned honors of CGA Regular-Season All-American on high bar after finishing out the regular season with a season-high 13.95. McKinney also highlighted his junior season by earning All-America honors on vault during the 2022 NCAA Championship Finals, notching a season-high score of 14.70 on vault. He also competed in seven meets for his debut season with the Huskers during the 2022 season. He helped NU to a second-place conference finish and fourth-place national finish after competing in both the NCAA Championship Qualifiers and Finals on both high bar and vault.
2021 (Sophomore/Minnesota)
Donte McKinney competed for the University of Minnesota during the 2021 season. He earned All-America honors at the NCAA Championships after finishing fifth on high bar. McKinney earned an individual title on high bar against Iowa with a score of 13.70. McKinney earned a career-high score on high bar at the NCAA Qualifiers with a score of 14.26. McKinney helped the Gophers to the NCAA Finals where they finished fifth.
2020 (Freshman/Minnesota)
McKinney competed for the Gophers during 2020 before the season ended early due to the coronavirus pandemic. He earned three vault individual titles (Iowa-14.65, Washington-14.50, Michigan-14.95). He also earned two individual titles on high bar (Washington-13.80, Nebraska-14.10). McKinney earned one pommel horse individual title against Washington on pommel horse (13.25). He had the second-highest vault score and top score as a freshman after notching a 14.95 against Michigan.
Before Collegiate Career
McKinney competed for Triumph Gymnastics under head coach Don Brown. He was a two-time Academic All-American, 2019 North Carolina State Champion, 2019 Regional Champion and 2019 National Runner-Up.
Personal
Donte is the son of Matthew and Dionne McKinney and has one brother, Darius. Donte was born on April 5, 2001 and is from Fort Bragg, North Carolina. A child, youth and family studies major, McKinney earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May of 2023. In his free time, he likes to spend time with his family and ride his one wheel.
