2008 Review:
Freshman David Spitdowski will join NU in January as the five-time Georgia state vault champion from Summit Gymnastics in Savannah, Ga. Although he was unable to practice with the team, Spitdowski trained in the preseason to join up with the Huskers in 2008. Spitdowski could work his way into Nebraska’s vault lineup during his first season, but will spend most of the season familiarizing himself with collegiate competition.
"David has been training hard to be in top shape when he officially joins the team," Head Coach Francis Allen said. "We have a strong vault lineup, but he could definitely see action as the season progresses."
Prior: An impressive club performer, Spitdowski trained under Coach Reggie Sykes at Summit Gymnastics. During his prep career, Spitdowski was a five-time Georgia state vault champion and also the two-time Region 8 vault champion. He qualified for the Junior Olympic National Championships three times, including placing 21st on vault and 28th on floor exercise in 2007.
A graduate of Bible Baptist School, Spitdowski was a member of National Honor Roll and National Honor Society. He also made the honor roll all four years of high school.
Personal: David is the son of David and Pam Spitdowski and was born on Dec. 26, 1988. A surfing enthusiast, David has not declared a major at Nebraska.
