2006 (Senior): Advanced to the event finals in three events (FX, PB, HB) at the Rocky Mountain Open on Jan. 13 ? Claimed his first event title of the season on the parallel bars (8.35) at the Rocky Mountain Open event finals on Jan. 14 ? Earned a score of 8.90 on the parallel bars against Iowa on Feb. 12 for first in the event, in addition to landing an oustanding career-high score of 9.45 on the high bar for the event title ? Named the MPSF Gymnast of the Week following the Iowa meet ? Finished third on the floor exercise (8.55) and first on the high bar (9.25) at Minnesota on Feb. 18 ? Notched a season-high floor score of 8.95 against Oklahoma on March 5 ? Also finished fourth on the pommel horse (8.50) and second on the high bar (9.35) against the Sooners...Finished second on the pommel horse with a team high 9.05 against Oklahoma and Stanford on March 11 ? Earned a trio of event titles on the pommel horse (9.05), parallel bars (8.95) and high bar (9.45) against Air Force on March 19 ? Wood’s parallel bars score was a season high, while his pommel horse and high bar scores tied his season and career highs respectively ? At the 2006 NCAA Championships, Wood advanced to the event finals on the pommel horse where he finished 10th in the nation ? 2005 (Junior): One of Nebraska’s premier floor competitors, Wood spent the majority of his junior season headlining this event ? Earned a career best 9.00 on the floor in NU’s home dual against Oklahoma ? Was the only Husker to qualify for the floor finals at the Rocky Mountain Open in Colorado Springs, Colo. ? Finished fifth overall with a score of 8.85 ? Boasted a season-high parallel bars score of 8.80 in Nebraska’s win over Minnesota and repeated the score the following weekend against Air Force.
2004 (Sophomore): After overcoming an injury in the offseason, Wood returned to the Nebraska lineup for what he hoped would be a repeat of a successful freshman season ? Earned his individual event title with a 9.25 on the pommel horse against Iowa ? Consistently posted high scores on the vault, including a 9.05 at the West Point Open and a 9.15 against Minnesota ? Put up an 8.80 on the floor exercise to tie for second in the event against the Gophers ? Marked a score of 9.25 on the pommel horse in Nebraska last regular-season meet for third place in the event ? Advanced to the individual event qualifier on the high bar with a score of 8.675, but failed to push through to finals.
2003 (Freshman): A product of the Nebraska School of Gymnastics, Wood entered Nebraska already familiar with the coaching staff and techniques at NU ? Finished second against Iowa (51.775) in the all-around in his first collegiate meet ? Ranked among the nation’s top-20 all-around competitors and remained there for 10 consecutive weeks ? Selected as one of two Huskers to compete at the Winter Cup Challenge on vault and pommel horse, becoming the first NU freshman to attend the meet in more than five years ? Claimed individual event titles on the pommel horse against Air Force (9.0) and on the parallel bars against Minnesota (8.95) ? Became one of two Huskers to compete in the all-around at the NCAA Championships, earning an overall score of 50.50.
Prior: Wood earned four letters under Coach Tami Decher at Lincoln Southeast High School ? Earned two perfect scores on the parallel bars and the high bar in his freshman and junior years, respectively and placed first in the all-around at the state championship three years in a row ? While with the Nebraska School of Gymnastics, Wood earned four consecutive all-around titles at both the regional and state meets, helping guide the club to four regional and one state title ? As a senior, he placed seventh at the 2002 Junior Olympic national meet held in San Diego, Calif.
Personal: The son of Dave and Lisa Wood, Derric was born on Oct. 12, 1983, in <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Lincoln, Neb ? He has one sister, Melissa, 24 ? Derric is a history major at Nebraska.
