A two-time Verizon/CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-American, right rush end Kyle Vanden Bosch starred on the field as well.  Vanden Bosch boasted a 3.822 cumulative grade-point average in finance and played in the Alamo Bowl with degree in hand, graduating Dec. 16, 2000.  He was awarded the Vincent dePaul Draddy Schoalr-Athlete Award from the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame, earning a $25,000 postgraduate scholarship, the Heisman of the student-athlete academic awards.

Vanden Bosch, the Woody Hayes Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, was named the Home Depot/Rigid Tools Scholar-Athlete of the Year, which also donates $10,000 to the University of Nebraska general scholarship fund.  He will apply his scholarship money to pursue his MBA after football.  Vanden Bosch was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the second round of the NFL draft as the 34th overall pick.

In 2000, Vanden Bosch earned his third academic All-Big 12 honor and became the 12th Husker to repeat as first-team academic All-American, extending Nebraska's streak of at least one academic All-American to 15 years.  Vanden Bosch was a valuable starter at rush end for the 12-1 Huskers in 1999, and was key on special teams, blocking a school-record three field goals in 1999.  A two-year starter, Vanden Bosch notched 142 career tackles - 34 for loss (ranks seventh in Husker history), including 13 sacks for 116 yards lost.

Vanden Bosch combined his intelligence, incredible strength (fifth-best all-time Husker Performance Index) and speed (1.58 10-yard dash, 4.78 40-yard dash) to make the most out of every play.  He was named the Nebraska Lifter of the Year in both 1999 and 2000 after being a finalist in 1998 and was named the all-sports male Husker Power Athlete of the Year in 2000.
