2023 (Freshman)
Jaylen Lloyd played in 10 games as a true freshman with one start. He caught six passes for 237 yards and three touchdowns. Lloyd averaged 39.5 yards per catch, and each of his three touchdown receptions covered at least 58 yards. Lloyd and Ohio State All-American Marvin Harrison Jr. were the only two Big Ten receivers with at least three 50-yard receptions during the 2023 season.
Lloyd saw action in the opener at Minnesota, rushing one time for nine yards. Lloyd also played against Louisiana Tech. He caught his first pass with a 19-yard reception against No. 2 Michigan. Lloyd caught a career-long 73-yard touchdown pass against Purdue for his first career score. He had one catch at Michigan State. Lloyd started the first game of his career against Maryland and had a 25-yard reception. He caught a 58-yard touchdown pass at Wisconsin, marking his fifth consecutive game with a reception. Lloyd made another big play against Iowa with a 66-yard touchdown reception to become the first Husker true freshman since 2002 to have a touchdown catch in consecutive games.
Before Nebraska (Omaha Westside HS)
Lloyd was a two-sport star who played his final season at Omaha Westside High School after beginning his career at Omaha Central. He was one of the state’s top wide receivers on the football field and was a national champion in track and field.
On the gridiron, Lloyd caught 44 passes for 784 yards and five touchdowns in his senior season at Westside, which was cut short due to injury. He averaged nearly 18 yards per reception, and his play helped the Warriors win the state title. Lloyd was named to the Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska first team as a senior in addition to earning a spot on the Lincoln Journal Star Super-State first team. At Omaha Central, Lloyd was an all-metro selection as a junior when he caught 20 passes for 420 yards.
In track and field, Lloyd was a six-time state champion. In his senior season, Lloyd was the all-class champion in the long jump and triple jump, while finishing second in the 100 meters and third in the 4x100-meter relay. As a junior Lloyd won Class A titles in the 100 meters, long jump and triple jump. He was also the Class A long jump champion as a sophomore. For his performance, Lloyd was named the 2021-22 Gatorade Nebraska Boys Track and Field Player of the Year.
On the national level, Lloyd won the 2022 National Junior Olympic Championships in the long jump while finishing third in the 100 meters. He also won the national title in the long jump and placed second in the triple jump at the 2022 Nike Outdoor Nationals. At the 2021 National Junior Olympic Championships, Lloyd finished second in the triple jump and third in the long jump.
A three-star recruit, Lloyd was ranked among the top 85 receivers in the nation by 247Sports. He also had offers in football from North Dakota, Northern Iowa and Texas Tech. Before deciding to compete in both sports at Nebraska, Lloyd nearly committed to focusing on track and field for Florida, the 2022 NCAA outdoor national champions.
Lloyd’s mother, Dalhia (Ingram) Lloyd, was a standout jumper for the Nebraska track and field program. A nine-time All-American from 1998 to 2000, Dalhia was a three-time indoor All-American in the triple jump and was a three-time outdoor All-American in both the triple jump and long jump. She was also a seven-time Big 12 Conference champion, winning a total of five long jump titles and two triple jump crowns.
