2008 Review: Stephen T?trault (prounounced TAY-TRO) wrapped up a successful career with the Huskers after a stellar senior season, which included winning the coveted Nebraska Male Student-Athlete of the Year Award. He competed in every tournament for the Huskers during his senior season, despite a mid-season injury.  T?trault was a strong all-around competitor for NU, with his best finish against Iowa on March 14 with a career-high score of 86.70 for second place. He went on to compete on pommel horse at the 2008 NCAA Championships, where he advanced to the second day of competition.

T?trault’s dedication to Nebraska goes far beyond gymnastics and into the classroom, as he not only earned Nebraska's Student-Athlete of the Year award, but also captured All-MPSF Academic scholar-athlete accolades for the third time in his career. He has also been named to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll six times in his four years at Nebraska.

2007 Review: During his junior year at Nebraska, T?trault regained momentum after battling injury in 2006 and reemerged on the national scene as a top competitor. After once again suffering a knee injury at the beginning of the season, T?trault returned to the all-around lineup mid-way through the season and finished the year as an all-around All-American. The award was Nebraska’s first in the all-around since 2000, and T?trault added yet another All-America honor the following day by finishing sixth on the pommel horse.

T?trault began the season with a third-place finish in the all-around (46.15) at the Rocky Mountain Open on Jan. 12. Just one week later, he suffered a slight knee injury warming up for the vault on Jan. 20 at Oklahoma and Air Force, which forced him out of the floor exercise and vault lineups for a month. While recovering, T?trault continued to be a strong force on his other four events, finishing second on the pommel horse with a score of 8.70 against Oklahoma on Feb. 2. T?trault competed in his third consecutive Winter Cup in 2007, where he finished 28th in Session I, including a seventh-place finish on the pommel horse.

T?trault made his much-anticipated return to the all-around against Iowa on Feb. 24, finishing second with a score of 51.80. He also shared the parallel bars title (8.95) with sophomore T.J. Schmidt in that meet.

2006 Review: After an outstanding freshman campaign, T?trault battled injury throughout his sophomore season, but still helped the Huskers as a solid all-around competitor. T?trault opened the year by finishing second on the vault with a season-high 9.25 at the Rocky Mountain Open event finals on Jan. 14. After the Stanford Open on Jan. 21, T?trault competed individually at the Winter Cup in Las Vegas for the second consecutive season where he tied for ninth on the vault and seventh on the parallel bars. Back with the Huskers, he finished third on the pommel horse (8.60) against Iowa on Feb. 12. T?trault notched his only event title of the season with a first-place finish on the pommel horse (8.80) against Minnesota on Feb. 18, before finishing third in the all-around with a score of 50.65 against Oklahoma the following weekend. T?trault finished the regular season strong, winning the all-around against Air Force on March 19 with a season-high score of 52.45 as well as finishing third on the floor (8.85), second on pommel horse with a season-high score of 8.95 and third on rings (8.25). At the 2006 NCAA Championships, he advanced to the all-around finals, but was able to compete only on the high bar and pommel horse because of an injury.

2005 Review: The only freshman to compete for Nebraska in 2005, T?trault made the most of his debut in collegiate gymnastics, earning four event titles as Nebraska’s top vaulter and launching as high as second in the national rankings. He banked five total event titles, four on the vault and one on the pommel horse, and sported the Huskers’ highest individual vaulting score of 9.65, which he earned against Ohio State. T?trault placed in the top three spots in at least one event in every regular-season meet in 2005. He was one of two Huskers to earn an invitation to the 2005 Winter Cup in Las Vegas, where he put up a score of 9.333 on the vault en route to finishing 26th in the all-around. The Lincoln native led the Huskers at the MPSF Championships. He finished third in the all-around (53.075), second in the vault (9.40) and fourth on the pommel horse (8.95), before going on to represent NU as the only Husker in the NCAA all-around finals where he finished 10th with a career-high score of 53.325. T?trault ended the season by earning All-America honors with a fifth-place finish on the vault (9.30) at the NCAA Championship event finals.

Prior: T?trault, a native of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, moved to the United States in 2000, and began working with the Lincoln East gymnastics team. While still in Canada, he was a member of the Canadian Junior National Team and was invited to the Junior National training camp in the United States in 2005, but declined in order to begin working with the Huskers. T?trault returned to Canada in the spring of 2005 briefly to compete in the Elite Canada, where he finished eighth overall in the senior men’s division.

Personal: The son of Jacques and Sydney T?trault, Stephen is attending Nebraska on an academic scholarship and boasts a 3.847 GPA as a mathematics major. Stephen has one younger sister, Katie, who is 19.
