Nicole Duval was a letterwinner for the Huskers from 1992-95. She was a three-time Academic All-American, being named to the third-team twice and taking first-team honors her senior year. She is the only Husker to ever earn the scholastic honor three times.

As a senior: Nicole Duval was named a third-team academic All-American in 1993 and 1994 before garnering first-team accolades as a senior, becoming the only Husker to ever earn the scholastic honor three times. At the time, she was the only Husker to repeat as GTE Academic All-American. She was also named to the Phillips 66 Big Eight Academic Honor Roll in 1995.

At the 1995 Big Eight Championships Duval tied for sixth in the all-around (38.55), third on vault (9.875) and second on floor (9.85). Her scores helped Nebraska capture the 1995 Big Eight Team Championship for the second-straight year.

On April 8 Duval tied for 10th on bars (9.80) at the Midwest Regional, as well as taking 11th in the all-around (38.85). Her contributions at the NCAA Championships at the University of Georgia, aided NU in an 11th-place finish.

As a junior: Duval, a Lincoln, Neb. native, continued to show consistency in the all-around competition. She tied her personal best of Feb. 16 against Oklahoma in the all-around with a score of 38.95. She produced season highs of 9.725 on both vault and bars, 9.85 on beam and a 9.75 on floor. On March 19 at Iowa State, she suffered a severe ankle sprain which kept her out of the Big Eight Conference Championships. She was able to come back for regionals where she tied for 11th place on bars with a 9.575. She tallied season averages of 9.536 on vault, 9.394 on bars, 9.241 on beam, 9.40 on floor and 37.575 in the all-around. She was named to the Phillips 66 Academic All-Big Eight team for the third year and to the Third-Team GTE Academic All-American team for the second season.

As a sophomore: Duval set five personal bests and two school records at the time in a stellar second-year effort. She school records came on bars and floor, where she posted near-perfect scores of 9.90. She scored 38.0 or better in each of the 11 all-around competitions during the regular season. At the Big Eight Conference Championships, she scored 9.85 on bars. Other personal bests were a 9.75 on vault at Auburn and a 38.95 in the all-around against Iowa State. Duval was named All-Big Eight on beam, bars, floor and in the all-around. She was the Big Eight Gymnast-of-the-Month for January. She also repeated as a Big Eight Conference Academic Honor Roll Member and received her first GTE Academic All-America honor as a member of the third team.

As a freshman: Duval was the team’s second best all-arounder, scoring 38-plus on four occasions. Her score of 9.75 on floor at the Big Eight Championships was strong enough for a second-place finish and all-conference honors. She scored a personal best 38.675 at the NCAA Midwest Regional in the all-around, which qualified her for the NCAA National Championships. At the NCAA Championships, she tied fellow Husker Martha Jenkins for 29th in the all-around (37.60). She was named to the Big Eight Conference Academic Honor Roll.   

Prior: Duval was a member of the Nebraska School of Gymnastics. She was the state Level 10 all-around champion in 1991. She was also a member of the 1988 Junior Olympic National team, where she finished 10th in the all-around.

Personal: A native of Lincoln, Neb., she was born on July 13, 1973 and is the daughter of Rick and Colleen Duval. Rick served as an assistant football coach at NU from 1972-1978. Nicole is the oldest of seven children. She owns a 3.94 grade point average in biological sciences.
