Junior (2023-24)
Alexis Markowski captured first-team All-Big Ten honors as one of the nation’s top centers in 2023-24. The 6-3 junior from Lincoln added a spot on the Big Ten All-Tournament Team after a monster effort in leading the Huskers to three wins before pushing No. 3 Iowa to overtime in the Big Ten Championship Game.

Markowski was a Lisa Leslie Award candidate for the second time, leading the Huskers with 19 double-doubles to tie the school record for career double-doubles with 40, joining first-team All-Americans and WNBA Draft picks Kelsey Griffin (40, 2006-10) and Jordan Hooper (40, 2011-14) atop that list with one full season remaining in her career. Markowski has averaged a double-double in back-to-back Big Ten regular seasons. She finished 2023-24 with team-best averages of 15.7 points and 10.5 rebounds while starting all 35 games for the Huskers. Nebraska won its first NCAA Tournament game since 2014 with a win over Texas A&M in the NCAA first round in Corvallis, Ore., when Markowski produced 16 points, six rebounds and two assists.
 
Markowski's effort in the NCAA first-round win over the Aggies followed 23 points, 13 rebounds and five assists in the Big Ten Championship Game against No. 3 Iowa (March 10). In four games at the 2024 TIAA Big Ten Tournament at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Markowski averaged 16.5 points, 11.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists to earn a spot on the Big Ten All-Tournament Team. 
 
Markowski’s 45 rebounds at the 2024 Big Ten Tournament were nine more than any other Husker in a single conference tournament in school history. Her 66 points tied for the fourth-most by a Husker in any conference tournament, and her 15 assists ranked fifth by a Husker in a conference tournament - trailing only the three best point guards in NU history - Lindsey Moore (19, 2012), Jaz Shelley (34, 2024; 16, 2022), and Rachel Theriot (30, 2014, Tournament MVP).
 
In a Big Ten quarterfinal win over Michigan State (March 8), Markowski produced 22 points, 12 boards and four assists.
 
Markowski, who finished with eight 20-point games in 2023-24, had 20 points and a career-high 21 rebounds in a win at Purdue (Feb. 17). It tied for the fourth-best rebounding total in Husker history.
 
Her 369 rebounds in 2023-24 marked the third-highest total in school history trailing only career rebound leader Janet Smith (1,280), who had 417 (1980-81) and 372 (1979-80) in back-to-back seasons.
 
Markowski is just 44 rebounds away from becoming the sixth player in school history with 1,000 career rebounds. Markowski, who is 324 rebounds away from Smith's more than 40-year-old Nebraska career rebound record (1,280), has averaged nearly 319 rebounds per season over her first three years. No Husker has come within 150 rebounds of Smith's career mark. Markowski is also well within striking distance of one of the top-five rebounding totals in Big Ten history.
 
Markowski opened Big Ten play with 13 points and 17 rebounds in a win at Michigan State (Dec. 9, before getting 20 points and 10 boards in a win over Maryland (Dec. 31). In between she had a game-high 21 points in a win over Southern (Dec. 17) and game highs of 19 points and 11 boards at Kansas (Dec. 20).
 
Markowski had 15 points, 11 rebounds, four assists and three steals in a win over No. 2 Iowa (Feb. 11). She also had 15 points and 11 boards at No. 5 Iowa (Jan. 27), after going for 16 points and 19 boards at Penn State (Jan. 21). She had 17 points and 14 rebounds at Minnesota (Jan. 14). It followed 14 points and 15 rebounds in a win over Illinois (Jan. 11), and 13 points and 11 boards at Wisconsin (Jan. 4). She had 21 points, including a season-high three threes against No. 14 Indiana (Jan. 7).
 
She had 18 points and 12 rebounds in a win over UNCW (Dec. 5). It followed 15 points and 10 boards in a win over Georgia Tech (Dec. 2) and an 18-point, 10-board effort in a win over FAU (Nov. 29). She also had 14 points and 14 rebounds against TCU (Nov. 25). She notched her first double-double of the season with game highs of 17 points and 13 rebounds in a win at Wyoming (Nov. 10). 
 
Markowski erupted for a season-high 24 points against No. 22 Creighton (Nov. 19), after putting up 20 points and nine boards in a win over Alcorn State (Nov. 14). She had 16 points on 5-of-6 shooting in a win over Lamar (Nov. 23). She had 18 points and nine rebounds in a Big Ten road win at Michigan (Feb. 6). She had 12 points and 10 boards in a win over Northwestern (Feb. 20). It followed 10 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Minnesota (Feb. 24).
 
Markowski produced double-figure points 32 times and never scored fewer than eight points in any game on the season. She added 21 double-digit rebound games. She closed the season with eight points and eight rebounds going head-to-head against Oregon State All-American Reagan Beers in the NCAA Tournament second round. Beers managed 10 points and six rebounds in a virtual stalemate with Markowski.

Sophomore (2022-23)
Markowski enjoyed a solid season as one of the top posts in the nation in 2022-23. She was one of 10 midseason contenders for the Lisa Leslie Award in 2023. She was also a member of the Naismith Trophy Watch List.

Markowski captured second-team All-Big Ten honors for the second straight season, playing in the same conference with Lisa Leslie finalists Mackenzie Holmes (Indiana) and Monika Czinano (Iowa, 2). Markowski, who was the only non-senior/graduate student among the 10 Leslie Award finalists, also went head-to-head against three more of the other seven finalists - Elizabeth Kitley (Virginia Tech), Jessika Carter (Mississippi State) and Taiyanna Jackson (Kansas, 2) - during the year. Overall, Markowski played seven games against the top 10 centers in the country. 

Markowski finished the season by averaging 11.9 points and a Big Ten-best 9.8 rebounds, while leading Nebraska and tying for seventh in the conference with 31 blocks. She scored in double figures 23 times in 33 games, while adding 19 double-digit rebound performances.

The only Big Ten player to average a double-double (12.4 ppg, 10.2 rpg) during the regular season, Markowski finished with 15 double-doubles on the year, trailing only national player of the year Caitlin Clark among Big Ten players in double-doubles. Markowski's double-double total tied for third on Nebraska's single-season list behind only All-American Kelsey Griffin (20, 2009-10) and Nafeesah Brown (16, 1993-94).

Markowski also led the Big Ten with 322 total rebounds overall, matching Kendall Bostic from Illinois with 9.8 rebounds per game to lead the conference. Markowski's 322 rebounds marked the fifth-highest single-season total in Nebraska history.

She erupted for a season-high 24 points and a career-high 18 rebounds in a win over Tarleton (Nov. 22). She also tied a career best with three blocks against the Texans. It followed a 21-point effort at Drake (Nov. 19), which came on the heels of her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds at No. 20 Creighton (Nov. 15).

Markowski finished the regular strong with nine double-doubles over the final 14 games, producing 12 games with double-figure points and 11 games with double-digit rebounds during that stretch. She entered the Postseason WNIT after getting 12 points and 13 rebounds against Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament (March 2). She also put up 16 points and 14 rebounds in a win over Northwestern (Feb. 26). In the win over the Wildcats, Markowski recorded career bests by hitting 9-of-11 free throws.

She produced 18 points and a career-high-tying 18 rebounds at No. 12 Michigan (Feb. 12) after getting 14 points and 11 boards against Illinois (Feb. 9). Those games capped a string of five straight double-doubles that began with 12 points and 11 boards at No. 10 Iowa (Jan. 28). Markowski followed with 11 points and 13 rebounds in a win over Michigan State (Feb. 2), before getting 11 points and 10 rebounds in a road win at Northwestern (Feb. 6).

Markowski had 19 points and 10 rebounds in a win at Purdue (Jan. 18), including 11 points and six rebounds in the fourth quarter to fuel a rally from a nine-point third-quarter deficit on the road. She added a Big Ten double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds in a win over Penn State (Jan. 11). She finished the season with nine double-doubles against Big Ten foes.

Markowski notched her third consecutive double-double with 18 points and a team-high 10 rebounds in Nebraska’s 3OT win over No. 20 Kansas (Dec. 21). She added three assists, two blocks and two steals against the Jayhawks. Her performance in the win over Kansas followed a double-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks in a win over Wyoming (Dec. 18) to earn the first Big Ten Player-of-the-Week award of her career (Dec. 19). Her double-double against Wyoming came on the heels of a 16-point, 15-rebound effort in a win over Samford (Dec. 10). 

Markowski nearly doubled her assist total (35-18) from 2021-22 and led the Huskers with 31 blocked shots on the year.

Freshman (2021-22)
The only unanimous choice by the league coaches to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team, Markowski was the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and a second-team All-Big Ten selection after winning eight Big Ten Freshman-of-the-Week awards. 

Overall, she ranked second among the Huskers in scoring (12.8 ppg) while leading the team in rebounding (8.0 rpg). She hit 49.2 percent (146-297) of her shots from the field, including a Nebraska freshman record 50 percent (21-42) of her threes. She also led NU with 108 free throws made and 164 attempts.
 
The only Power Five freshman to produce the combined averages of at least 12.0 points (12.8 ppg) and 6.0 rebounds (8.0 rpg) in 2021-22, Markowski averaged 15.4 points, 9.1 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 0.8 blocks in 20 games as a starter.
 
For the season, Markowski averaged team bests with 23.7 points and 14.9 rebounds per 40 minutes. Her 421 total points ranked sixth among freshmen in school history, while her 265 rebounds ranked third. Her 8.0 rebounds per game marked the second-best average in history by a Husker freshman. Her 108 free throws made and 164 attempted both ranked fourth among NU freshmen all-time.
 
She capped her first season as a Husker with 10 points, nine rebounds and two blocks against Gonzaga in the first round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament. It was her 20th double-figure scoring effort and her seventh straight game with nine or more rebounds to end the campaign. Markowski finished with seven double-digit rebound games  and six double-doubles on the year. She also recorded six 20-point scoring performances.
 
Markowski was the USBWA National Freshman of the Week (Jan. 11) after averaging 17.0 points and 7.5 rebounds while making her first career starts against top-25 Michigan and Iowa teams. She produced her first 20-point game to go with seven rebounds, two blocks and a steal in Nebraska's 79-58 win over No. 8 Michigan (Jan. 4) in her first start. It matched NU's largest victory margin ever against a top-10 foe. She followed with 14 points and eight boards against the No. 22 Hawkeyes (Jan. 9).
 
Markowski established a career high with 27 points, including 6-of-7 three-point shooting, at Iowa (Jan. 16). She went 10-for-12 overall from the field and scored 16 points in the first quarter alone, outscoring the Hawkeyes 16-14 in the period despite the Huskers playing without starting guards Sam Haiby and Jaz Shelley. 
 
She had 23 points, including 3-for-3 three-point shooting, in a win over Purdue (Jan. 30), before going for 23 points and 15 rebounds at No. 21 Ohio State (Feb. 10). She added 23 points and seven boards at Penn State (Feb. 17), before getting 22 points and nine rebounds in a Big Ten Tournament win over Illinois (March 3).
 
Markowski posted back-to-back double-doubles with 17 points and 10 rebounds in a win over Indiana State (Dec. 11), before adding 15 points and 10 boards in a win over Drake (Dec. 19). She notched her third double-double with 16 points and a season-best 15 boards in a 50-38 win over Rutgers (Feb. 1).
 
She added another big double-double with 10 points and a season-high matching 15 rebounds in Nebraska's 72-55 win over No. 5 Indiana (Feb. 14). NU's victory margin over the Hoosiers was the largest in school history over a top-five opponent.
 
Markowski posted her final double-double with 16 points and 12 boards in a Senior Night victory over Northwestern (Feb. 27) to give the Huskers a school-record-tying 16th home win of the season at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
 
She produced her first double-digit scoring effort with 14 points and six rebounds in just 16 minutes off the bench in a win over Prairie View A&M (Nov. 11). She added 11 big points and four rebounds in just over 12 minutes in a 67-62 win over Creighton (Nov. 17).
 
Markowski managed 11 points and six boards in 14 minutes off the bench at Michigan State (Dec. 30), before making her first career start against Michigan (Jan. 4). She had 17 points, seven rebounds and a season-high three steals as a starter at No. 6 Indiana (Jan. 13).
 
Following her career-high 27-point scoring effort at Iowa (Jan. 16), Markowski returned from NU's 10-day COVID pause by producing 15 points and eight rebounds in just 18 minutes in a 77-44 win over Wisconsin (Jan. 27). She capped NU's four-game home stand with 18 points in a win over Penn State (Feb. 3).

High School
Markowski was named the Nebraska Gatorade State High School Girls Basketball Player of the Year after averaging 23.3 points, 13 rebounds and two blocks while leading Lincoln Pius X to a second straight Class A state title in 2021. She was also named the MaxPreps Nebraska Player of the Year after averaging 23.7 points and 19.3 rebounds in three state tournament wins for the Thunderbolts. Lincoln Pius X finished 25-0 and was ranked in the MaxPreps final national top 25.

Markowski scored 30 or more points on four occasions as a senior, including a career-high and Pius X school-record 42 points in a win over Fremont on Jan. 2, 2021. She was also the state's most dominant rebounder, racking up 16 double-doubles and pulling down 20 or more boards on four occasions. In Pius X's Class A state semifinal win over Omaha Central, Markowski carried the Bolts with 30 points and a season-high 27 rebounds in a 47-38 win. She added 27 points and 19 boards in a championship game win over Fremont.

Regarded as the top player in Nebraska’s largest class in 2019-20 after averaging 21.5 points and 12.1 rebounds per game as a junior, Markowski tied the Nebraska Class A State Tournament scoring record with 80 points over three games to lead Lincoln Pius X to the 2020 state championship. Her performance earned her a second straight appearance on the Class A All-Tournament team, and she was also named the honorary captain of the Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska and Lincoln Journal Star Super-State teams.

Markowski closed her career with school records of 1,484 points and 867 rebounds over 76 games (19.5 ppg, 11.4 rpg). She missed her freshman season (2017-18) with a foot injury. The previous Pius X career scoring record was held by former Husker Maddie Simon.

Markowski set the Lincoln Pius X single-season scoring record with 560 points as a junior, smashing the previous mark (474) held by Simon. Markowski broke her own record with 582 points as a senior, while adding a school-record 325 rebounds, surpassing her previous mark of 315 set in 2019-20.

As a sophomore in 2018-19, Markowski earned a spot on the Class A All-Tournament team after leading Pius X to the state semifinals. She averaged 13.7 points and 9.1 rebounds per game, while also setting the school’s single-season blocked shot record with 47.

Markowski finished with 10 career 30-point games. She was also a three-time, first-team All-Heartland Athletic Conference selection.

She competed for the Nebraska Lasers in club basketball for her coach and father, former Husker men’s basketball player Andy Markowski, who is an assistant at Pius X.

A multi-sport athlete, Markowski earned four letters as a middle/outside hitter for Pius X. She was a three-time all-city and four-time All-Heartland Athletic Conference pick in volleyball, while setting Pius X records with 11 blocks in a match and 136 blocks in a season.

Off the courts, Markowski was selected to the Heartland Athletic Conference Student Leadership Cadre and was chosen for the Future Builders of Lincoln.

Personal
The daughter of Andy and Jaime Markowski, Alexis was born July 13, 2003, in Toledo, Ohio. Alexis has two younger sisters, Adison and Ava, and a younger brother, Jake.

Alexis’ father, Andy, was a 6-8 forward for the Husker men’s basketball team from 1994-95 to 1998-99. He was a two-time team captain (1998, 1999) and was a member of four Nebraska postseason tournament teams, helping the Huskers to the 1998 NCAA Tournament and the 1996 NIT championship. He was also a three-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection.

A business administration major, Alexis earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2023 and 2024. She is also a three-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection and a two-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
