Junior (2023-24)
Strauch was a mainstay in the Huskers’ lineup in 2023-24, competing in every match for the Big Red, including the NCAA Championships. She posted a second-place finish in the air rifle, smallbore and aggregate and a third-place finish in the smallbore. Strauch earned a career-high 595 in the air rifle at UTEP on Jan. 28. Her smallbore average of 579.23 ranked third on the team. Strauch was also selected as a member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll.
Sophomore (2022-23)
Mackenzie Strauch competed in every match for the Huskers during her sophomore season, including the NCAA Championships. She posted averages of 575.08 in the smallbore, 588.69 in the air rifle and 1,163.77 in the aggregate. She grabbed six top-10 overall finishes, five top-10 air rifle finishes and six top-10 smallbore finishes, including one first-place. Strauch recorded career bests in all three events this season – 587 in the smallbore (vs Ohio State), 592 in the air rifle (5x, at Ohio State/TCU, at Alaska-Fairbanks, vs UTEP, at Morehead State, vs Ohio State) and 1,179 in the aggregate (vs Ohio State).
Freshman (2021-22)
Mackenzie Strauch (pronounced Strau) competed in all 12 matches in her first season as a Husker and posted three top-five overall finishes on the year. She also had one top-five smallbore finish and a pair of top-five air rifle finishes on the year. She posted an average aggregate score of 1,156.17, which was fifth on the team. Strauch averaged a 571.83 in smallbore and a 584.33 in air rifle. Her best smallbore score of the year was a mark of 582 at the NCAA Qualifiers against Murray State, while her best air rifle score was a 590 against Air Force on Nov. 20.
Before Nebraska
Strauch came to Nebraska after a strong youth career. She attended Montana State University in 2020-21, but did not compete in athletics. She enjoyed a decorated prep career, as she qualified for the Junior Olympics in 2019 and 2021, placing 35th overall. She also won state titles in the smallbore in 2020 and the air rifle in 2018, while attending Belgrade High School. She competed for the Gallatin Valley Sharp Shooters Club and Head Coach Lee Nelson. Strauch placed sixth in the region at the Civilian Marksmanship Program, helping Gallatin Valley to a team title in 2019.
Personal
The daughter of Lisa and Lance Strauch, Mackenzie was born on March 26, 2002. She has two older brothers, Jeremy and Fallon. Strauch majors in criminology and criminal justice at Nebraska. Strauch continues a trend of shooters from Montana, following Rachel Yager (2017-20), Maddie Korthas (2017-20) and Elizabeth Lorentz (2019-21).
