2022-23: Sophomore 
Roni Hietaranta had a strong 2022-23 season, playing almost exclusively in the No. 1 spot in singles until the final few matches of the season. Hietaranta posted a 14-14 overall record, including a 7-3 mark in the fall and 7-11 in the spring. In the fall, Hietaranta went on an impressive run all the way to the semifinals in the Big Ten Individual Championships. His spring season was highlighted by his win in the No. 1 spot against No. 38 Alabama to help the Huskers pick up their biggest upset of the season. In doubles, Hietaranta proved to be a force, especially in Big Ten play. He finished the year with a 14-5 record in the spring, including a 5-1 mark in conference play.
 
Hietaranta was named a Big Ten Athlete of the Week on March 15 and was also named to the 2023 Tom Osborne Team. Most notably, he was awarded the Sam Foltz 27 Hero Leadership Award.

2021-22: Freshman
Roni Hietaranta was impressive for the Huskers during his freshman season. The native of Lappeenranta, Finland, earned 14 singles wins in the spring for a 22-11 overall record. His 22 singles victories ranked first on the team and was the second-most wins in school history by a freshman. Hietaranta, who went 8-5 in singles play during the fall, posted a 0-1 record at No. 3, an 8-3 mark at No. 4, a 3-1 record at No. 5 and a 3-1 record at No. 6. In doubles play, Hietaranta finished 8-10.

Off the court, Hietaranta was named to the 2022 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.

Before Nebraska
Hailing from Lappeenranta, Finland, Hieteranta has won four singles and four doubles ITF Junior Tournament titles. In 2018, Hieteranta took both the singles and doubles titles at the Under-21 Finnish Championships.

Personal
The son of Esko and Kati Hietaranta, Roni was born Sept. 24, 2001. A College Sports Communicators Academic All-District selection in 2023, Roni is majoring in psychology. He was a 2023 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar, a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and an Academic All-Big Ten honoree. He is a two-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection. Hietaranta claimed a prestigious Sam Foltz 27 Hero Leadership Award in 2023. He is a two-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
