Sophomore (2022-23)
Payton Fry competed in four matches for the Huskers in her sophomore year. She posted a smallbore average of 566.00, an air rifle average of 581.75 and an aggregate average of 1,147.75. She recorded personal bests in the air rifle (584) and aggregate (1,152) against The Citadel.
Freshman (2021-22)
Payton Fry competed in 10-of-12 matches in her debut season for the Huskers. She recorded an average aggregate of 1,138.4 this season. Her average smallbore score was a 562.6, and her average air rifle score was a 575.8. Her season-best smallbore score was a 569 against Ohio State on Sept. 25. Her season-best air rifle mark was a 583 against Air Force on Nov. 21.
Before Nebraska
Fry comes to Lincoln after a strong prep career in her native Colorado. She served as team captain at the Arvada Rifle and Pistol Club for two seasons, leading the program to the 2019 NRA 3P Air State competition. For her efforts, she was named the athlete of the year for the club in 2019. A two-time Junior Olympics qualifier, she took second in the Arizona Smallbore Junior Olympic qualifier in 2020. She also trained with 2016 U.S. Olympian Lucas Kozeniesky at Team Winning Solutions. In the classroom, she lettered three times in academics at Ralston Valley High School.
Personal
The daughter of Heather and Timothy Fry, Payton was born on on June 14, 2002. She has two younger brothers, Trey and Everett. An animal science major, Payton was a CRCA Scholastic All-American in 2022. She is a three-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection. She also earned a spot on the 2022 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. Outside of rifle, Fry’s hobbies include writing, drawing, hiking, reading, paddle boarding, yoga, and playing video games.
