Junior (2023-24)
JoJo Randby was a key contributor for the Huskers in numerous individual events and relays this season, picking up six NCAA B Standard Cuts and capturing 15 top-three finishes. After breaking the 100 breaststroke school record last season (1:00.07), Randby totaled five first-place finishes in the event during her junior campaign. At the mid-season Hawkeye Invitational, Randby qualified for the 100 breaststroke finals with a time of 1:00.63 in the prelims. She went on to finish first-overall with a time of 1:00.54 and logged an NCAA B Standard Cut.
Randby also picked up a fourth-place finish in the 50 freestyle at the Hawkeye Invite. She touched the wall in a time of 23.10 for a career-best. At the Big Ten Championships, Randby qualified for the 100 breaststroke B final with a time of 1:01.40. She clocked a 1:01.65 in the final to finish 13th-overall.
Randby was a key contributor to Husker relays throughout the season. At the Big Ten Championships, she helped her group to an eighth-place finish in the 200 medley relay, logging a time of 1:39.42 for second all-time at NU. Randby also contributed to a third-fastest 400 medley relay time in school history (3:37.60).
Sophomore (2022-23)
Randby's sophomore season was highlighted by her record-breaking performance at the Big Ten Championships. In the 100 breaststroke, Randby clocked a 1:00.10 in the prelims to shatter the 29-year-old school record. The sophomore from Omaha went on to rebreak the record in the final with a 1:00.07 to place seventh overall. Randby tallied eight top-two finishes and six NCAA B Standard Cuts in the 100 breaststroke throughout the season. Randby added a career-best 2:13.25 in the 200 breaststroke final to place 12th and move up to No. 10 on the all-time list.
At the Minnesota and South Dakota double-dual, Randby swam to victory in 1:04.63. The mid-season Hawkeye Invitational was highlighted by Randby clocking a 1:01.20 in the 100 breaststroke prelims to notch her first NCAA B Standard Cut of the season. She went on to finish as runner-up in the event, while taking sixth in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.86) and eighth in the 100 freestyle (51.57). She also swam to second-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke at the Iowa State (1:04.77), Iowa (1:04.84), Kansas (1:05.58) and Omaha (1:04.61) duals.
In the 200 breaststroke, Randby notched top-five finishes at the Iowa State (2:25.38) and Iowa (2:26.24) duals. She wrapped up dual season with an 100 breaststroke victory against Illinois (1:02.64) and runner-up finish at Rutgers (1:01.66).
Randby was one of five Huskers to compete at the CSCAA National Invitational Championships, where she brought in a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke.
Freshman (2021-22)
Randby grew to become one of Nebraska’s top swimmers in a variety of events and a major asset in the relays during her freshman season. She kicked off her season at the South Dakota State dual, where she placed second in the 200 medley relay and claimed an individual third place in the 100 freestyle. The Omaha-native continued her dominant start in the dual against Iowa with a relay victory in the 200 medley relay and a runner-up finish in the 100 breaststroke. The Iowa State dual for Randby was highlighted by a fourth-place swim in the 50 freestyle. She notched another top-five finish in the 100 breaststroke against Kansas.
At the mid-season Mizzou Invitational, Randby swam to three top-15 finishes including a seventh place in the 100 breaststroke (1:03.99), 12th place in the 100 freestyle (51.80) and 13th place in the 50 freestyle (23.64). Randby got the opportunity to compete on the national stage in three different events at the U.S. Open Championships (Dec. 1-4). She was one of three Huskers to qualify for the B-finals in the 100-meter breaststroke, where she went on to place 16th with a 1:14.49. She added an 18th-place finish in the 200-meter breaststroke (2:42.11) and finished 32nd in the 50-meter freestyle (27.25).
In the final dual of the season, Randby finished as runner-up in the 50 freestyle with a 23.70 and took third in the 100 breast with a 1:03.22. Randby made a pair of C-final appearances in the breaststroke events, where she placed 18th in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.50) and 20th in the 200 breaststroke (2:14.89). She also earned a spot on NU’s 200 freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay at the conference meet.
Before Nebraska
A nine-time Nebraska state swimming champion, Randby had a total of 17 career top-six finishes at the Nebraska state meet, including five second-place showings. She also powered Omaha Marian to back-to-back state team titles in 2020 and 2021, while helping the team to runner-up finishes in 2018 and 2019. A 10-time NISCA All-American, Randby won individual state titles in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.29) and 50 freestyle (23.01) and added relay championships in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle during her senior season.
Randby swam the second leg of Omaha Marian’s state championship 200-yard medley relay team (1:45.46) as a sophomore in 2019. She added four runner-up state finishes in 2019, including the 100 breast (1:03.21), a tie for second in the 50 free (24.03) and second-place finishes for Marian’s 200 (1:37.84) and 400 free relay (3:35.90) teams. Omaha Marian also took second as a team at the state meet. She helped Marian to a 2018 state runner-up team finish as a freshman. She earned a silver medal as a member of Marian’s 200 free relay and helped Marian’s 200 medley relay to a third-place finish. She added a fifth-place finish in the 100 breast and a sixth-place showing in the 200 IM. Randby also competed for Greater Omaha Aquatics.
A four-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021), Randby was a member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Socity and Math National Honor Society, while carrying a 4.29 GPA.
Personal
The daughter of Bill and Julie Randby, (Jocelyn) JoJo was born Jan. 14, 2003 in Omaha, Neb. She has one older brother Will and a twin sister, Maddie. JoJo, who is majoring in management and biological sciences, is a two-time second-team CSCAA Scholar All-American (2022, 2023). A Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and an Academic All-Big Ten choice in 2023, she is a four-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection with four perfect 4.0 semesters. She chose Nebraska over Minnesota. She was also a member of the 2022 and 2023 Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.
“Coach Pablo (Morales) and Patrick (Rowan) are humble and genuine mentors,” Randby said. “I really like the supportive atmosphere at Nebraska, and I had a lot of fun on my visit. I also really appreciate the great academic and athletic resources at Nebraska. I truly believe there is no place like Nebraska.”
