Freshman (2021-22)
Ilaria Murzilli started her freshman campaign making immediate contributions, swimming to a second-place finish in the CSCAA Open Water Championships to help Nebraska to a team victory. At the South Dakota State dual, Murzilli was part of the first-place 200 freestyle relay. She added an individual third-place finish in the 200 freestyle and placed fourth in the 100 backstroke.

Murzilli showed what she can do in the distance events against Iowa State, claiming individual victories in both the 500 freestyle and the 1,000 freestyle. Against Kansas, Murzilli knocked nine seconds off her previous best 1,000 freestyle at Nebraska to win the event. She also placed third in the 500 freestyle against the Jayhawks. The freshman swam the 1,650 freestyle at the Mizzou Invitational and produced a 10th place finish with a 16:59.87. She swam to two more top-20 finishes in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle.

From Dec. 1-4, Murzilli got the opportunity to compete against the best swimmers in the nation at the U.S. Open Championships, where she finished 21st overall in the 400-meter freestyle (4:23.27) after qualifying for the C-finals. The end of dual season was marked by a 500 freestyle victory (4:57.78) at Illinois and a runner-up finish in the event against Rutgers. She also notched a third-place finish in the mile with a 17:01.47.

During Murzilli's debut at the Big Ten Championships, she swam a career-best 1,650 freestyle to place 26th with a 16:59.18. She added a 32nd-place swim in the 500 freestyle (4:55.81) and finished 41st in the 200 freestyle with a 1:50.60.
