2021-22 (Junior)
At the South Dakota State dual, Kimberly Lanaghen swam to a fourth-place finish in the 500 freestyle to begin her season. The junior from Boulder, Colo. followed that up with solid performances in the freestyle events against the Hawkeyes, finishing fourth in the 200 freestyle and sixth in the 100 freestyle.

Lanaghen produced three top-20 finishes at the Mizzou Invitational, including a 15th-place swim in the 500 freestyle (4:56.33), 19th place in the 200 freestyle (1:51.75) and 20th in the 100 freestyle (52.96). 

She capped off her season at the 2022 Big Ten Championships, where she swam a season-best time in the 500 freestyle (4:56.35), while also competing in the 100 free and 200 free.

2020-21 (Sophomore)
Lanaghen made an impact for the Huskers by advancing to the C-Final in the 500 freestyle at the 2021 Big Ten Swimming Championships in Minneapolis. The sophomore raced to a career-best time of 4:49.11 in the 500 free prelims, before finishing 20th overall to earn five team points for the Big Red. She helped the Huskers to their highest score and team finish in Big Ten history. Lanaghen added a 36th-place showing in the 200 free with a career-best 1:50.44 at the conference meet, and tied for 35th in the 200 fly (2:02.35). She also posted a career-best 51.96 in the 100 free in a time trial following the Big Ten meet.

Lanaghen earned four top-five finishes during an abbreviated 2021 regular season, highlighted by her fourth-place showing in the 200 free at Iowa (Jan. 16). She added a fifth-place finish in the 100 free against the Hawkeyes. She took fifth in the 200 free in a home dual against Illinois (Jan. 23) and added a tie for fifth in the 50 free against the Fighting Illini.

2019-20 (Freshman)
Lanaghen made immediate contributions for the Huskers in the butterfly and sprint freestyle events as a true freshman. Lanaghen provided her greatest impact in the 200 butterfly, where she swam to a 27th-place finish at the 2020 Big Ten Championships in a career-best 2:00.88. She added a 42nd-place finish in the 100 fly at the Big Ten meet in a career-best 55.80. Both of her fly performances at the conference meet marked the fourth-best times by a Husker in 2019-20. She also contributed a career-best 1:52.78 in the 200 free to finish 77th at the Big Ten Championships. During the season, Lanaghen produced six top-five finishes, including a trio of runner-up showings. She took second in the 100 fly in a team dual win over South Dakota State to open the season, before adding second-place finishes in the 200 fly in dual wins over Northern Iowa (Oct. 12) and Omaha (Jan. 18). In the classroom, Lanaghen earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in the fall and spring semesters of 2019-20.

Previous
Lanaghen came to Nebraska after competing for Bob Smart at Fairview High School in Boulder, Colo. Lanaghen helped Fairview to four consecutive state appearances, including a state title in 2016.  She finished seventh in the 100 butterfly at the 2019 CHSAA Class 5A State Championships with a time of 56.15. She finished fourth in the 100 fly at the 2018 state meet as a junior, after finishing third in the event as a sophomore in 2017. She took fifth in the 100 fly at the state championships as a freshman. The honor roll student was a member of a 200 medley relay team that earned All-America honors in 2016.  She also swam in the Jeffco Hurricanes club program for Coach Brett Stoyell. 

Personal 
The daughter of David and Polly Lanaghen, Kimberly was born Nov. 18, 2000, in Boulder, Colo. She has an older brother, Bridger. A microbiology major, Kimberly claimed Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2021 and 2022. She is a five-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection. She is a two-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. She chose Nebraska over Boise State, Colorado State and Utah.
