2021-2022
Fifth-year senior and All-American Autumn Haebig consistently led the Huskers in and out of the pool throughout her season. The Wisconsin-native returned to the Big Ten Championships podium in the 200 freestyle, placing sixth with a 1:45.74. Haebig notched another top-ten finish in the 500 freestyle after qualifying for the B-finals and capped off her individual races by swimming a career-best 100 freestyle time. The 49.09 put her at third on Nebraska's all-time list in the event.
Haebig followed the conference meet up with her fourth trip to the NCAA Championships. She opened the meet by swimming a season-best 4:43.46 in the 500 freestyle to place 28th. In the 200 freestyle, Haebig notched her best finish of the competition at 23rd place with a time of 1:45.69.
She swam at the South Dakota State dual to begin the 2021-22 season, where she won the 100 freestyle and was the leadoff swimmer for the second-place 200 medley relay. Haebig capped off October with four individual top-three finishes in one weekend, including two victories in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke against Iowa State. She added a second-place swim in the 200 freestyle and swam to third in the 500 freestyle against Minnesota.
The swimmer from Grafton, Wis. had a dominant performance in the Kansas dual, winning all four of her events to help the team to a 192-106 dual victory. This included two individual first-place swims in the 200 free and 500 free, along with two relay wins in the 200 medley relay and 400 freestyle relay.
At the competitive Mizzou Invitational (Nov. 17-19), Haebig swam her way to three victories, including wins in the 200 freestyle (1:46.00), 500 freestyle (4:44.04) and 800 freestyle relay (7:15.75).
Haebig brought her experience swimming against elite competition to the U.S. Opens (Dec. 1-4), where she qualified for finals for three consecutive days. A top-ten finish in the 200-meter freestyle with a 2:01.96 highlighted her performance, while she added a 13th-place swim in the 400-meter freestyle (4:16.78) and finished 17th in the 100-meter freestyle (56.81). Haebig closed the dual season with victories in the 200 free and 500 free against Rutgers and a trio of runner-up finishes (100 free, 200 free, 500 free) at Illinois.
2020-21 (Senior)
A star as a swimmer for the Huskers over the past four years, All-American Haebig continued to add her name to Nebraska history by capturing the first Big Ten Conference individual title by a Husker swimmer. Haebig swam to a Big Ten championship in the 200 freestyle with a career-best and Nebraska record time of 1:44.39 in Minneapolis on Feb. 25. She became Nebraska’s first individual conference champion since Lauren Bailey claimed the 1,650 free Big 12 title in 2007. Haebig also became the first swimmer in Husker history to earn first-team All-Big Ten honors.
Haebig became the first Husker swimmer to earn NCAA All-America honors at the national championships since Lauren Bailey (9th, 1,650 free, 2006) by taking 14th in the 500-yard freestyle (4:42.32) at the 2021 NCAA Championships. Haebig earned three team points for the Big Red with her performance to open the meet. The next night at nationals, Haebig made history again, becoming the first Husker swimmer to earn a pair of individual All-America awards at the same championship since Elvira Fischer (100 & 200 breaststrokes) in 2001. Haebig won the consolation final to bring home a ninth-place finish and eight big team points for the Big Red.
Haebig’s 11 total points at nationals helped the Huskers to a 26th-place finish - their best showing since taking 23rd in 2001. Nebraska’s 33 points scored as a team at nationals were its most since 2000. In addition to her gold medal-winning swim in the 200 free at the conference meet, Haebig added a fifth-place finish to score big points for the Big Red in the 500. She added a ninth-place finish by winning the B-Final in the 100 free at the conference meet in a career-best 49.14. She was Nebraska’s leading scorer as a swimmer at the conference meet with 77 individual points, while also contributing to four Husker relays (200 medley, 200 free, 400 free, 800 free relays) that combined for 172 team points at the 2021 Big Ten Championships.
With Haebig leading the charge, Nebraska produced its best Big Ten team finish since joining the conference in 2011-12. Haebig also qualified for the Olympic Trials in three events. During an abbreviated 2021 regular season, Haebig earned seven top-five finishes, including five titles and a runner-up finish. She swept three victories in the 100 free, 200 free and 500 free in a season-opening dual with Iowa (Jan. 16), before sweeping all three races again in a tri-dual with Minnesota and the Hawkeyes (Feb. 6). She added a second-place finish in the 200 free in the Senior Day dual with Illinois (Jan. 23).
2019-20 (Junior)
Haebig put together an outstanding season as a junior in 2019-20, earning CSCAA All-America honors after qualifying for the NCAA Championships in the 200 freestyle with a then-school-record time of 1:44.94. She added another school record with a time of 4:41.83 in the 500 free to finish eighth at the Big Ten Championships. She also swam to a then-career-best time of 49.30 in the 100 free to finish 16th at the conference championships, after taking ninth in the 200 free (1:44.95) at the Big Ten meet. She was set to compete in the 100, 200 and 500-yard freestyles at the 2020 NCAA Championships, before the meet was canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak in mid-March. Haebig set her school-record time in the 200 free as the leadoff leg in Nebraska’s 800 freestyle relay. In addition to her three top-16 individual finishes at the 2020 Big Ten meet, Haebig also swam the leadoff leg on four of Nebraska’s relays (400 free, 800 free, 200 medley, 400 medley). In her first three seasons at Nebraska, Haebig produced 45 top-five finishes including 25 victories. In 2019-20, Haebig finished in the top five 17 times with nine individual wins. In the classroom, Haebig earned Academic All-Big Ten honors for the second straight season.
2018-19 (Sophomore)
Haebig followed her impressive freshman season with a strong sophomore campaign. She earned 13 top-five finishes, including seven victories, and set then-career bests in the 100 free (49.38) and 200 free (1:46.02). Throughout the season, Haebig was a consistent performer for the Huskers, winning the 100 free three times (vs. Kansas, Rutgers, South Dakota State), the 200 free twice (Last Chance Meet, vs. Rutgers), and the 100 back twice (vs. Kansas, Iowa State). Competing at the USA Swimming Winter Nationals, Haebig won the 400 free B final (4:14.96), placed third in the 200 free B final, and sixth in the 100 back A final (1:02.18). Her times at Winter Nationals in the 400 free and 100 back earned her spots at the U.S. Olympic Trials. At the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, Haebig swam on three Big Ten relay teams, finishing sixth in the 400 medley relay (Haebig, Beeler, Doty, Doctor), fifth in the 800 free relay (Haebig, Unicomb, Koontz, Waddell), and fourth in the 400 free relay (Unicomb, Haebig, Burvill, Andison). Concluding her season at the Big Ten Championships, Haebig finished 12th in the 100 free in a then-career-best time (49.38), 15th in the 500 free, and 18th in the 100 back. During the summer of 2019, Haebig earned a spot at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Omaha by posting a time of 2:00.55 in the 200-meter free at the Phillips 66 National Championships in Stanford, Calif. In the classroom, Haebig earned Academic All-Big Ten honors.
2017-18 (Freshman)
Haebig had a stellar debut season as a Husker, producing 15 top-five finishes, including seven victories and four runner-up finishes. Haebig also became the first Husker swimmer to qualify for the NCAA Championships since 2013. At the 2018 Big Ten Championships, Haebig set then-career bests in the 200 free (1:46.22) and 500 free (4:42.69, then-school record). She added a 10th-place finish in the 100 back. The Wisconsin native tallied two additional career bests by pulling in a victory in the 100 back (52.29) at the Last Chance Meet and a 12th-place finish in the 200 back at the Mizzou Invite. The three-time NCAA qualifier also competed at the USA Winter Nationals compiling two top-10 finishes. In the classroom, she earned spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll in both the fall and spring semesters.
Previous
Haebig joined Nebraska after a stellar career at Grafton High School, where she was a 14-time state champion and earned two runner-up finishes. Haebig led Grafton to two state championships and three sectional championships. She was named WISCA Swimmer of the Year DII and Milwaukee Journal Sentinal Female Swimmer of the Year. While swimming for Ozaukee Aquatics, Haebig helped her team to a runner-up finish at the USA Junior Nationals (2015) and NESA Junior Nationals (Spring 2016). The Ozaukee Aquatics reeled in a victory at the Summer 2016 NESA Junior Nationals. Haebig recorded an Olympic Trial cut in the 100-meter backstroke with a time of 1:01.71. She claimed the 2013 High Point Individual Award and qualified for the 2013-14 Wisconsin Long Course State Championship. Haebig was also on the honor roll.
Personal
The daughter of Linda and Steve Haebig. Autumn was born Oct. 13, 1998, in Grafton, Wis. She has two sisters, Stephanie and Aly. An advertising and public relations major/sports media and communication major, Autumn earned her bachelor's degree from Nebraska in May of 2022. She was a three-time CSCAA first-team Scholar All-American. She was a 2021 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and a four-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree. Haebig was a 10-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection and a five-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. She chose Nebraska over Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas and Wisconsin.
