Huskers Fall to #3 Ohio State

The No. 50 Nebraska women’s tennis team fell to No. 3 Ohio State (16-3, 7-1 Big Ten) on Friday by a score of 4-1. The Huskers (12-6, 5-4 Big Ten) saw their five-match win streak come to an end, losing for the first time since March 13. 
 
The Big Red dropped two doubles matches and three singles matches on the day, while picking up a doubles win and one singles victory.
 
Friday evening action began with doubles at the Dillon Tennis Center with No. 65 Conley Raidt and Katie Spencer headlining on court one, Reya Lee Coe and Natalia Trigosso on court two, and Emma Rizzetto and Tiziana Rossini partnering up on court three. 
 
Doubles play started with a 6-2 victory for Spencer/Raidt over 13th-ranked doubles Oluwadare/Chavez. Cisse/Spencer would then even it out with a 6-3 defeat over Rizzetto/Rossini, and No. 53 Johnson/Perry quickly secured the doubles point for the Buckeyes with a 6-2 win against Coe/Trigosso. 
 
NU headed into singles play down 1-0. Ohio State grabbed the first singles point, as Cisse topped Spencer, 6-3, 6-1, on court three. Catherine Gagnon then grabbed the first point of the night for the Huskers, defeating Oluwadare on court five by a score of 6-1, 6-2. Audrey Spencer pushed OSU’s lead to 3-1 after defeating Rizzetto, 6-3, 6-4 on court four. 
 
With the match on the line, the Huskers attempted to fight back, but No. 4 Teah Chavez topped Raidt, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, on court two to secure the 4-1 victory for the Buckeyes. Taranova and Rossini’s matches were left unfinished on courts one and six respectively.

Nebraska will stay in Lincoln for a match against the No. 46 Penn State Nittany Lions. The match is slated to start at 10 a.m. (CT).
