Big Red Win Fifth Straight at Indiana

The No. 48 Nebraska women’s tennis team topped Indiana by a score of 4-2 in a Sunday afternoon match in Bloomington, Ind. The Huskers (12-5, 5-3 Big Ten) notched their fifth straight win in their victory over the Hoosiers. 

The Big Red dropped one doubles match and two singles matches, and picked up two doubles victories along with three singles victories against IU (12-7, 2-5 Big Ten). 

Sunday’s match began with doubles play at the IU Indoor Tennis Center. Maria Taranova and Emma Rizzetto were paired up on court three, and were the first doubles to finish as they fell to Boyer/N. Teodosescu by a score of 6-1. Conley Raidt and Katie Spencer then took down A. Teodosescu/Williams, 6-4, on court one. Finally, Reya Lee Coe and Natalia Trigosso grabbed the point-clinching victory over Dunac/Sorey by a score of 6-4 on court two. 

Nebraska took on singles play with a 1-0 lead over IU. Raidt was the first to fall, as Ale Teodosescu defeated her on court two, 6-1, 6-0. Catherine Gagnon then extended NU’s lead once again on court four, taking down Nicole Teodosescu, 2-6, 6-2, 6-0. Indiana would once again tie it up, this time at 2-2, after Nicole Sifuentes’ victory over Miyoshi, 7-6, 7-5. 

The Huskers charged ahead after the Hoosiers tied up the match, with Tiziana Rossini taking down Williams on court five by a score of 5-7, 6-2, 6-1, to put the Big Red within a point of victory. Taranova subsequently took down Sorey on court one, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, which ultimately sealed the 4-2 victory for Nebraska.

The Big Red will return home for a pair of matches against Ohio State and Penn State as a part of a four-match homestand at the Dillon Tennis Center. The Huskers will face the Buckeyes on Friday, April 3 at 5 p.m. (CT), and the Nittany Lions on Sunday, April 5 at 10 a.m. (CT).
