Swim and Dive Set for Opening Weekend

The Nebraska women’s swimming and diving team will splash into preseason action this weekend at the Devaney Natatorium in Lincoln, Neb. 

The Big Red will host in-state foes for the Good Life Relays on Friday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. (CT), including the men’s and women’s Omaha and Nebraska Wesleyan teams, as well as the women’s Saint Mary’s team. 

In the event's inaugural showing, the relays will include medley relays and three-person relay events for each stroke. 

Following the Good Life Relay, the Huskers have their annual Scarlet vs. Cream intrasquad meet Saturday, Sept. 26 at 10:30 a.m. (CT). Last year, Scarlet grabbed its third consecutive victory over the Cream, 386-334, in the Nebraska swimming and diving team’s annual intrasquad meet.

The event will highlight individual swimming events along with relays, while divers compete on both springboards. At the end of the meet, there will be a fan-favorite swimmers-dive event and a divers-swim event. 

Three-time school record holder Beatrix Tanko is looking to continue her historic campaign from last season. The senior from Budapest, Hungary, qualified for her first appearance in the NCAA Championship, competing in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 fly during her championship run. 

The recent Big Ten watch list nominee collected a school-record time of 51.75 in the 100 fly for her efforts at the Big Ten Championships. Tanko began her record-collecting for the Cornhuskers at the Hawkeye Invite, where she swam a 22.17 in the 50 free finals and grabbed a second-place finish. Her time of 48.56 was enough for an additional runner-up finish in the 100 free at the midseason competition. She amassed 21 top-five finishes, 12 of which were event titles throughout her junior year.

Senior Abby Baxter from Coppell, Texas, made her second NCAA Championship appearance last season on the three-meter board. She notched an 11th-place finish and accumulated a B final score of 312.15 in Atlanta, Ga. Baxter added her first honorable-mention All-America honors on the three-meter board. Baxter amassed a score of 585.05 at the Zone D Diving Championships to finish sixth place and qualify for nationals. She accrued 16 top-five finishes throughout the season, including a career-best winning score of 346.10 against Iowa State.

The Huskers will look to continue their success at a national level this year after a 7-2 dual record last season and a top-30 finish at the 2026 NCAA Championship. Regular season competition will begin on Friday, Oct. 2 where the Big Red will face the Iowa State Cyclones at home.   

Following the inaugural Good Life Relays, the Huskers will host its annual intrasquad meet at 10:30 a.m. back at Devaney.
