No. 1 Huskers Roll to Sweep in Home Opener

The No. 1 Nebraska volleyball team opened its 2026 home season with a dominant sweep of the New Mexico Lobos, 25-12, 25-13, 25-15, at John Cook Arena at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on Thursday night. 

The Huskers (5-0) drew an arena record crowd of 10,497 at the newly renovated Devaney Center. 

NU recorded a .356 hitting percentage on the day, while the Big Red defense held New Mexico to .046 hitting. Nebraska logged seven blocks and six aces, to only one block and one ace for the Lobos. 

Teraya Sigler and Manaia Ogbechie paced the Husker offense with nine kills apiece, including a .538 hitting percentage from Ogbechie. Harper Murray added eight kills, while Virginia Adriano and Andi Jackson each had seven.

Ogbechie posted a team-high five blocks, and Bergen Reilly had 22 assists. Olivia Mauch added a solid presence for Nebraska's defense, registering 11 digs on the night. Laney Choboy and Jackson each had two service aces.

Set 1: Nebraska controlled the opening set, matching its season-best run of 10 behind Reilly’s serving to race out to a 10-0 lead. The Huskers’ advantage grew to 14 after block assist from Adriano and Ogbechie and a pair of Lobo attack errors had the Big Red ahead 20-6. Adriano’s kill brought the Huskers to set point at 24-11, while Sigler’s third kill of the night clinched Nebraska’s 25-12 victory in set one. As a team, the Huskers hit .429 with 13 kills and limited the Lobos to -0.030 hitting.

Set 2: The two teams traded short runs to open the set, but NU used a 4-0 spurt to take an 11-5 lead with Reilly at the service line. The Huskers extended the lead to nine at 16-7, powered by a Jackson kill and Mauch ace. The Big Red dominated the rest of the set, eventually closing it out 25-13, with kills from Sigler and Adriano. 

Set 3: Nebraska grabbed a 7-4 lead with back-to-back kills from Jackson before stretching the advantage to 11-6 with Jackson at the service line and a pair of kills from Sigler. NU used a 7-0 run, which included two Lobo errors and kills from Ogbechie, Pierce and Murray, to snatch a 10-point lead it would not relinquish. The Huskers would close out the set, 25-15 and the match on a Gabby DiVita kill.

NU will continue its homestand tomorrow night against No. 20 Baylor. The match is set to start at 7 p.m. and will be televised on the Big Ten Network. The contest can also be heard across the Huskers Radio Network.
