No. 1 Nebraska Sweeps No. 2 Texas in Players Era Showcase

LAS VEGAS – No. 1 Nebraska volleyball swept No. 2 Texas (25-19, 25-19, 25-16) on Sunday afternoon to close its run at the Players Era Showcase at T-Mobile Arena.

Nebraska (2-0) hit .293 on the afternoon and limited Texas (2-2) to a .152 hitting percentage, finishing with 10 blocks and seven service aces.

Andi Jackson led all Huskers with nine kills, hitting .571 while adding a pair of blocks. Manaia Ogbechie led Nebraska with seven blocks and also recorded seven kills.

Harper Murray and Teraya Sigler added eight and seven kills, respectively.

Set 1: Nebraska overcame an early 8-5 deficit with a dominant 10-0 run, fueled by strong serving from Bergen Reilly and NU’s pressure at the net that forced four Texas errors and recorded two blocks in the run. The Longhorns battled back to cut the Big Red’s lead to 20-18 before the Huskers scored five of the final six points to take the first set. Kills from Jackson, Sigler and Ogbechie highlighted the 5-1 run, while Reilly’s service ace clinched the 25-19 victory.

Set 2: Texas jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead, but Nebraska responded with a 6-0 rally of their own to take a 7-4 lead after block assists from Jackson and Murray. The Huskers gradually built the lead to 18-10 behind consecutive kills from Murray and Jackson. Texas made a late push, trimming the deficit to 23-18 before the Big Red stopped the momentum with a kill from Murray to reach match point at 24-18. After Texas added another point, Jackson finished off the set with a kill to give the Huskers another 25-19 win.

Set 3: Nebraska built a 4-1 lead before Texas scored four of five to even the score at 5-5. The Huskers responded with a 5-1 run of their own to force a Longhorn timeout at 10-6. Nebraska continued to build its lead and used another run to open a 15-9 advantage at the media timeout thanks to an ace from Sigler. The Longhorns got to within four (17-13), but the Big Red pulled away and ended the match on a 4-0 run to finish the sweep.

No. 1 Nebraska returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 2, as the Huskers visit South Dakota State in Brookings, S.D.
