Four Huskers Named GCAA Scholar All-Americans

Four Nebraska men's golfers were named 2025-26 NCAA Division I Cobalt Golf All-America Scholars, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Aug. 3.

Nebraska's 2026-27 returners Evan McDermott and Jackson Benge lead the list of honorees, while departed All-Big Ten performer Rudy Sautron and Brodie Cunningham round out the Huskers in the group. 

McDermott (Spring Lake, Michigan), who enters his fifth season as a Husker in 2026-27, earned his bachelor's degree from Nebraska as a mechanical engineering major in May 2026. A three-time Academic All-Big Ten choice, McDermott was a 2026 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar. A seven-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll, he earned a prestigious Sam Foltz 27 Hero Leadership Award in 2026. McDermott is also a three-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. He owned a 73.15 stroke average over 33 rounds in 2025-26.

Benge (Omaha, Nebraska), who will be a junior for the Huskers in 2026-27, earned Academic All-Big Ten honors as a business administration major in 2026. He is a three-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection and a two-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team. Last season, he led Nebraska with a 13th-place finish at the Big Ten Championship. He closed his sophomore season with a 71.76 stroke average over 38 rounds.

Sautron (Reunion Island, France), earned PING GCAA All-Midwest Region honors after tying for 25th at the 2026 NCAA Marana Regional. He set the Nebraska season stroke average record (70.27) over 41 rounds for the Big Red on his way to All-Big Ten honors. A management major, Sautron was also a GCAA Scholar All-American in 2025 and an Academic All-Big Ten choice in 2026. and earned four spots on the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll. He was also a two-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team.

Cunningham (Glasgow, Scotland) posted a 72.95 stroke average over 37 rounds as a sophomore. The finance major also earned Academic All-Big Ten honors in 2026. He was a four-time Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll selection and a two-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team (2025, 2026).

To be eligible for Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar recognition, a student-athlete must be a sophomore or above both academically and athletically, participate in at least 50 percent of their team’s competitive rounds and have a stroke average under 76.0. They must also maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at their college or university.

A total of 649 NCAA Division I athletes from 210 schools earned 2025-26 Cobalt Golf All-America Scholar honors. 

Nebraska was one of just 81 schools in NCAA Division I to have as many as four recipients of Scholar All-America honors.
