Gerch Joins Husker Golfers

Written byJeff Griesch

Lincoln native Gavin Gerch returns to his hometown this fall as a member of the Nebraska men's golf team, Husker Head Coach Judd Cornell announced on Tuesday.

"Gavin will be a great addition to our program," Cornell said. "He has some excellent golf in him that will be on full display as a Husker. He's an incredible person and has everything you want as a player. He's going to be fun to follow the next few years."

Gerch, who will be a junior for the Big Red after spending his first two seasons at Creighton, earned a spot on the 2025 BIG EAST All-Tournament Team as a freshman after tying for fourth at the conference championship and closed the year with a 74.42 stroke average.

Gerch again posted a 74.42 stroke average over 26 rounds for the Bluejays as a sophomore in 2025-26. He closed the season by tying for 25th at the BIG EAST Championship, which included a 70 (-2) in the final round.

A graduate of Lincoln Southeast High School, Gerch played in nine of Creighton's 10 tournaments on the year, including a season-best sixth-place finish at the Savannah Intercollegiate, which included an opening-round 67.

A finance major, Gerch will join former Lincoln Southeast teammate Thomas Bryson on Nebraska's roster. Gerch tied for third at the Class A state tournament as both a junior and a senior in 2023 and 2024. He matched current Husker Jackson Benge in a tie for third in 2023 after rounds of 69 and 73, before tying for third again in 2024 with rounds of 71 and 73. He was also the Heartland Athletic Conference Tournament champion in both 2023 and 2024 before adding a Lincoln Public Schools championship in 2024.

Gerch is the son of former Nebraska baseball outfielder Andy Gerch, who earned a spot on the 2005 College World Series All-Tournament Team after being named the outstanding player of the 2005 Lincoln Regional and a member of the Big 12 All-Tournament Team. He was also a member of the 2007 Tempe Regional All-Tournament Team to close his career.
