The Nebraska track and field program earned 50 entries to the NCAA West First Round, which will be held at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark., from May 27-30. Action will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, and at 1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Athletes who rank among the top 48 in their respective events earned berths into the NCAA West First Round, as well as the 24 best relay times. The top 12 competitors from each individual event and the top 12 teams from each relay event at the regional meet will advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, set for June 10-13 at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
The Huskers are coming off a pair of top-five team finishes at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships at the Nebraska Outdoor Track on May 15-17. The NU men earned a tie for second with 81 team points, while the women also scored 81 team points and placed fifth.
The Huskers compiled five individual Big Ten champions: James Ledbetter (400m Hurdles), Dyson Wicker (Pole Vault), Keyshawn Strachan (Javelin), Kelsie Belquist (400m Hurdles) and Axelina Johansson (Shot Put).
