Huskers Head to Georgia for Spec Towns Invitational

The Nebraska track and field teams will travel to Athens, Ga., to compete at the Spec Towns Invitational from April 9-11. 

Thursday’s action will consist solely of decathlon and heptathlon events, starting at 12:30 p.m. Events will begin at 12 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Schutz Continues to Rewrite the Record Book
Nebraska track and field junior Berlyn Schutz broke the 5000m school record at the Stanford Invitational, finishing third with a time of 15:39.38 at the Stanford Invitational.

Schutz’s time beat the old school record of 15:45.29, set by Sammie Resh Gdowski in 1990. The Lincoln native now holds five individual school records and one relay record.

Husker Spring Kickoff Recap

The Nebraska track and field team completed its first home outdoor meet since 2019, winning 17 events.

Freshman distance runner Taya Fettig was the first Husker to compete on the new track, winning the women’s 3000m steeplechase with a time of 11:22.95. On the men’s side, Riley Boonstra won the event title, running 10:09.40.

In the women’s 800m, Sydney Drevlow ran 2:12.12 to win the title. Tommy Rice took the top spot in the men’s 800m, running 1:55.92.

Luciana Medina strided to her first win of the outdoor season, running 57.17 in the women’s 400m race.

Hillevi Carlsson took the top spot in the women’s hammer throw with a throw of 57.81m (189-9). Sage Burbach won the women’s shot put title with a mark of 14.92m (48-11 ½). 

Amelia Flynt claimed the women’s discus title with a throw of 50.11m (164-5). On the men’s side, Kael Miedema won the event title with a throw of 17.79m (58-4 ½). 

Husker sophomore Ava Goetz claimed the women’s high jump title, clearing 1.76m (5-9 ¼). EJ Brown stood second on the high jump podium at her first collegiate outdoor meet with a mark of 1.76m (5-9 ¼). Mason Kooi won the title on the men’s side after clearing 2.11m (6-11).

Dyson Wicker won his second men’s pole vault title of the outdoor season, clearing the bar at 5.65m (18-6 ½). 

Ava Alexander won the women’s triple jump title after jumping 11.35m (37-3) on her second attempt. 

In the men’s hammer throw, Seth Schnakenberg claimed the event title after throwing 64.59m (208-7). 

Brett Schwartz earned the men’s discus title with a throw of 55.90m (183-5). 

Alea Hardie ran away with the women’s 1500m title, crossing the line in 4:33.32.

Nebraska took the women’s 4x400m title, running 3:48.59. The men’s team swept the event, running 3:17.12.
