The No. 42 Nebraska women’s tennis team will be on the road for a weekend of contests, featuring matches against No. 29 Wisconsin on Friday, April 17, and Minnesota on Sunday, April 19. The Huskers will take on the Badgers at 6 p.m. (CT) at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium in Madison, Wis., and then travel to Minneapolis on Sunday to face off against the Golden Gophers at the Baseline Tennis Center at Noon (CT).
NU (15-6, 7-4 Big Ten) rose to No. 42 in the national rankings after seeing another undefeated week with wins over Creighton and No. 41 Iowa. The Huskers now own a three-match winning streak, having won eight of their last nine matches.
Freshman Katie Spencer leads the team in spring singles wins, notching her 11th victory on Saturday over Iowa’s Tereza Dejnozkova, to put her at a 5-0 record in the No. 2 spot for the Big Red.
Spencer, named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on April 8, is also ranked No. 39 nationally in doubles with partner Conley Raidt. The duo grabbed another ranked victory over No. 68 Mack/Hayashida, giving them a 5-1 record at the No. 1 spot.
No. 29 Wisconsin (14-6, 7-4 Big Ten)
History: Nebraska owns an 8-4 series advantage all-time over the Badgers. Their last time facing off, the Huskers narrowly fell to Wisconsin, 4-3 in Lincoln. UW has two ranked singles players in No. 17 Maria Sholokhova and No. 66 Ekaterina Ivanova. The Badgers also have a doubles group placed in the national rankings, with No. 21 Sholokhova/Lucie Urbanova.
Minnesota (10-15, 0-11 Big Ten)
History: NU boasts a 14-4 all-time record over Minnesota, with their last meeting being a 4-1 Husker victory in Lincoln. The Gophers do not have any ranked singles or doubles players. Minnesota will face off against the Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday, April 17, prior to the match with Nebraska.
