Jasa Fans Nine, Buck Goes Deep in 3-1 Win

Nebraska picked up its sixth consecutive home series win with a 3-1 victory against Michigan State on Saturday afternoon at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park.

Nebraska (9-5, 2-0 Big Ten) scored three runs on eight hits and an error, while Michigan State (3-10, 0-2 Big Ten) totaled one run, six hits and an error.

Mac Moyer led the Huskers with a 3-for-5 performance that included a double and a run scored. Jett Buck went 2-for-4 with a double and a homer, and Will Jesske drove in the Big Red’s first run of the day.

Carson Jasa improved to 2-1 on the season, striking out nine batters across five innings while allowing one run on four hits and six walks. Ryan Harrahill recorded an out before Caleb Clark worked 1.2 clean frames with two punchouts. Cooper Katskee picked up his first save of the season, dealing two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and a walk.

Michigan State broke through in the fourth with a pair of hits and two walks. A single and a double down the left-field line had runners on second and third with one out, while two walks gave the Spartans a 1-0 lead.

Nebraska answered immediately in the bottom of the fourth. Buck doubled to center and Jesske followed with an RBI single through the left side to score Buck and tie the game at one.

The Huskers grabbed their first lead in the fifth on an unearned run. Moyer doubled to left and scored when Overbeek reached on a fielding error at first base. Nebraska loaded the bases with two outs but couldn’t add to the lead, holding a 2-1 advantage through five innings.

Buck doubled the Big Red’s lead to two after sending an 0-1 pitch 376 feet to the berm in left field for a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Katskee worked around a one-out walk in the eighth and retired the Spartans in order in the ninth to seal the 3-1 victory for the Huskers.

Nebraska and Michigan State conclude the series tomorrow afternoon at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park. First pitch between the Huskers and Spartans is set for 12 p.m. on B1G+.
