TEMPE, Ariz. — The Nebraska beach volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday at the Sun Devil Classic hosted by Arizona State. Nebraska defeated Southern Miss 3-2 before falling to No. 8 Arizona State 5-0. The Huskers are now 8-1 on the season.
In the first match of the day, the Golden Eagles got on the board first with a win at No. 4, as Y-Nhu Do and Lillie Johnson downed Olivia Mauch and Manaia Ogbechie 21-14, 21-17. NU evened the match as Harper Murray and Andi Jackson defeated Zuzanna Michalska and Abigail Lewis 23-21, 21-13. NU took the lead after Keri Leimbach and Jayden Robinson won at No. 5, topping Bonija Runce and Iustina Corcoz 21-18, 21-17.
Skyler Pierce and Laney Choboy clinched the victory for Nebraska at No. 3, outlasting Jaden White and Ki Martini Adamsone 23-21, 15-21, 15-11. Southern Miss earned the final point as its No. 1 pair Laurel Dennis and Sadie McAda defeated Bergen Reilly and Teraya Sigler in a tight match 21-19, 19-21, 16-14.
In the afternoon match against No. 8 Arizona State, the Sun Devils won all five duals. Only Murray and Jackson were able to force their No. 2 match to a third set, falling 20-22, 21-19, 8-15.
The Huskers continue play at the Sun Devil Classic against No. 19 Arizona at 11 a.m. (CT) on Saturday, and against Arizona Christian at 5 p.m. (CT).
