Huskers Top Purdue 4-2 in West Lafayette

The No. 48 Nebraska women’s tennis team defeated Purdue by a score of 4-2  in West Lafayette, Ind., on Friday evening, stretching the Huskers’ win streak to four. 

The Huskers (11-5, 4-3 Big Ten) dropped one doubles match and two singles matches, and picked up two doubles victories along with three singles victories against the Boilermakers (6-8, 2-4 Big Ten).

The match began with doubles at the Schwartz Tennis Center. Yuzu Miyoshi and Tiziana Rossini paired up and were the first to finish, falling on court two to Wilson/Gutierrez, 6-1. Conley Raidt and Katie Spencer, who partnered up on court one, then took down Gencer/Clement by a score of 6-4. With the doubles point on the line, Reya Lee Coe and Natalia Trigosso defeated Wilson/Kolyszko on court three by a score of 6-4 to secure the doubles point for the Big Red.  

Up by a point, NU took the courts for singles. Maria Taranova was the first to finish, taking down Gencer on court one, 6-4, 6-1. Rossini then tallied a victory on court five, defeating Wilson, 6-2, 6-4, to extend the lead to 3-0 for the Huskers. Purdue then grabbed its first point of the day, as Raidt fell to Clement, 6-3, 6-4, on court two. Kolyszko then cut NU’s lead to just one, topping Miyoshi on court six, 6-3, 7-5 [7-4]. With the score at 3-2, Catherine Gagnon took down Kayal Gownder, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, on court four to secure the dual victory for the Big Red. Spencer’s match against Fatima Gutierrez was left unfinished on court three.

Nebraska will head to Bloomington for a match against Indiana on Sunday, March 29. The Huskers and the Hoosiers will face off at Noon (CT) at the IU Indoor Tennis Center.
