The No. 48 Nebraska women’s tennis team is traveling to Indiana for a weekend of matches, featuring contests with Purdue on Friday, March 27, and Indiana on Sunday, March 29. The Big Red will face off against the Boilermakers at 3 p.m. (CT) at the Schwartz Tennis Center in West Lafayette, Ind., and then travel to Bloomington Sunday to face the Hoosiers at Noon (CT) at the IU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Huskers (10-5, 3-3 Big Ten) saw an undefeated weekend featuring two ranked upsets to post a three-match winning streak, and place them back in the national rankings at No. 48, their highest ranking since March 9, 2025 (No. 44). Nebraska topped No. 21 Washington and No. 64 Oregon, both by scores of 4-3. The win against the Huskies marked NU’s highest ranked victory since defeating No. 18 Ohio State in 2018.
Junior Maria Taranova tallied yet another ranked victory in the upset over Washington, as she defeated No. 70 Erika Matsuda to notch her third such win of the spring season. Freshman Katie Spencer continues her strong debut, going undefeated in singles last weekend with victories over Washington’s Alexia Jacobs and Virginia Crocker from Oregon, putting her in the lead for spring singles wins on the team with eight. Spencer also saw a ranked doubles win along with partner Conley Raidt, defeating No. 46 Matsuda/Syrtveit of Washington.
Purdue (6-7, 2-3 Big Ten)
History: Nebraska looks to tie up the all-time series on Friday, as Purdue leads it 8-7. The two teams last played in 2024, where the Boilermakers took down the Huskers, 4-1, in West Lafayette. Purdue has grabbed notable wins over Indiana and No. 64 Minnesota this season. The Boilermakers do not have any ranked singles or doubles players.
Indiana (11-6, 1-4 Big Ten)
History: Nebraska leads the all-time series against the Hoosiers with a record of 7-3. Last time out, the Huskers defeated Indiana in Lincoln by a score of 4-1 in 2024. The Hoosiers have grabbed ranked victories over No. 69 Cornell and No. 64 Minnesota. Indiana does not have any ranked singles or doubles players.
