Huskers Travel to Michigan for Last Regular Season Meet
No. 3 Nebraska is set to travel to No. 4 Michigan for the last regular season match-up on March 22 at 1 p.m. (CT), in Ann Arbor, Mich. The meet will be streamed on Big Ten Plus.
Last Time Out
Nebraska beat out Illinois in their last meet with a score of 322.350, which was their highest team score of the season so far. Asher Cohen won the rings title. There was a three-way tie for the vault title with Nathan York, Luke James and Chase Mondi all sharing the title and York also grabbed the parallel bars title.
Scouting the Competition
No. 4 Michigan beat out Ohio State in their last meet with a score of 328.700-326.550. This was a season-high score for the Wolverines. They picked up four event titles. Charlie Larson grabbed the floor and vault titles, Akshay Puri won the rings title and Carson Eshlemen claimed the high bar title. Michigan’s final team score is the second-highest in the nation this season behind No. 1 Oklahoma. Michigan beat Nebraska in the dual meet last season and is the reigning Big Ten Champions.
Quick Notes
-This meet against Michigan is a must-win for the Huskers. If the Huskers win, they will share the regular-season Big Ten title with Michigan and potentially Ohio State if they win their meet this weekend.
-Huskers swept the CGA weekly awards this week. York was Gymnast of the Week, Cohen was Specialist of the Week and Sam Rakita won Rookie of the Week.
Rakita also won Big Ten Freshman of the Week after his performance in the dual against Illinois.
-Nebraska had three people receive stuck landing bonuses in the meet against Illinois. Rakita had one on rings, York on parallel bars, Alex Nitache on parallel bars and high bar.
-As a team, Nebraska is ranked third on floor, fifth on pommel horse, eighth on rings, first on vault, second on parallel bars and second on high bar.
-Senior Asher Cohen earned a spot as a Nissen-Emery finalist. This is one of the most prestigious awards in all of college gymnastics. The award is given out at the NCAA Championships, which will be held at Illinois.
-Nebraska will be hosting the Big Ten Championships on April 3-4 at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
