The Nebraska women’s tennis team defeated Michigan State by a score of 4-3 on Sunday, March 15, in East Lansing, Mich. After grabbing their first conference victory of the season, the Huskers move to 8-5 on the season and 1-3 in conference play.
The Huskers dropped two doubles matches and three singles matches on the day, while picking up four singles victories against the Spartans (8-6, 1-3 Big Ten).
The Big Red began doubles play at the MSU Indoor Tennis Center with Emma Rizzetto and Conley Raidt teaming up on court one, Reya Lee Coe and Yuzu Miyoshi on court two and Maria Taranova and Natalia Trigosso getting together on court three. Taranova/Trigosso were the first to finish, falling to Brahmbhatt/Plihal by a score of 6-1. Parkins-Godwin/Purser then topped Coe/Miyoshi, 7-5, to grab the doubles point for MSU.
Down 1-0 following doubles play, NU took the courts for singles. Rizzetto swiftly defeated Matilde Morais, 6-4, 6-2, on court three. Rossini was then taken down by Hanna Tsitavets on court four, 7-6, 6-1. Taranova came back on court one to defeat nationally-ranked No. 109 Ellie Blackford by a score of 1-6, 6-2, 6-1, which would tie the match at 2-2.
Raidt extended a lead for the Huskers after topping Brahmbhatt on court two, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. However, Michigan State’s Parkins-Godwin evened it back up by taking down Coe, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 on court six. With the game and Nebraska’s first Big Ten victory of the season on the line, Catherine Gagnon defeated Plihal on court five, 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.

The Huskers will return home for a weekend of competition featuring matches against Washington and Oregon at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
