The Nebraska women’s tennis team fell to No. 40 Michigan by a score of 4-0 in a Friday evening match in Ann Arbor, Mich.
The Big Red (7-5, 0-3 Big Ten) dropped two doubles matches and three singles matches on the day against the Wolverines (5-5, 2-1 Big Ten).
Doubles play began at the Varsity Tennis Center with Conley Raidt and Emma Rizzetto squadding up on court one, Reya Lee Coe and Yuzu Miyoshi on court two, and Maria Taranova and Natalia Trigosso on court three. Nationally-ranked No. 36 Jones/Bernales swiftly defeated Raidt/Rizzetto, 6-0. No. 68 doubles Charney/Sartz-Lunde then sealed the doubles point for the Wolverines with a 6-4 victory over Coe/Miyoshi. Taranova/Trigosso’s match against Rahnel/Bruno was left unfinished on court three.
The Huskers took on singles play down 1-0 after doubles. On court four, Michigan’s Bernales grabbed the first singles match of the day, taking down Tiziana Rossini, 6-1, 6-1. No. 14 Piper Charney then topped Raidt on court two by a score of 6-3, 6-1, to extend the lead to 3-0 for the Wolverines. Rizzetto subsequently fell to Sartz-Lunde on court three, 6-4, 6-2, which would seal the victory for Michigan.
