The No. 2 Nebraska rifle team will head to Columbus, Ohio, to take on No. 12 Ohio State in an NCAA-qualifying match on Saturday, Feb. 21. The match is set to begin at 8 a.m. (CT). Live stats can be found here.
The Huskers are aiming towards their 21st NCAA Championship appearance since 2000. Nebraska did not qualify as a team last year, but Emma Rhode and Maddy Moyer qualified as individuals. Rhode qualified for the smallbore, where she placed 11th, and was listed as an alternate in the air rifle. Moyer qualified for both events, placing 38th and 27th in smallbore and air rifle respectively.
Saturday’s score will make up 50 percent of the score that determines if teams qualify for the NCAA Championships. It will be combined with the average of Nebraska’s top three team scores at different locations from this season. Those scores are 4,758 (PRC Championships, 2/7-8/26), 4,749 (at Army, 10/25/25), and 4,747 (at TCU, 11/1/25).
“We are looking forward to getting to Ohio for our NCAA Qualifier,” Head Coach Richard Clark said. “It’s a match that historically has made or broken seasons for teams across the country. The team has been working very hard coming off our conference championship letting the little things do the work. If we stay true to ourselves and perform like we do day in and day out, we'll see some great things this weekend and hopefully punch our ticket to the NCAA Championships.”
NU most recently competed in the Patriot Rifle Conference Championships in Fort Wayne, Ind. on Feb. 7-8, where it finished first overall. The Big Red continued the record-breaking season, once again shattering the team aggregate record with their score of 4,758. The Huskers also shot a school record in the air rifle with their collective score of 2,394, a record previously set at TCU on Nov. 1. The championship field featured three top-five teams, and all seven conference teams were in the top 15.
Nebraska faced off against Ohio State twice this season, taking the win both times. NU first defeated the Buckeyes in its season opener, 4,729-4,688, and most recently topped them at the PRC Championships, where Ohio State placed seventh.
The selection show for the NCAA Championships will air live on https://www.ncaa.com at 5 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23. The championships will take place on March 13-14 in Columbus, Ohio.
