The No. 2 Nebraska rifle team will travel to Fairbanks, Alaska for a weekend of competition against No. 1 Kentucky and No. 9 Alaska-Fairbanks. The Huskers will face off against the Wildcats and the Nanooks on both Saturday, Jan. 17 and Sunday, Jan. 18. Both days of matches are set to begin at 11 a.m. (CT). Live results can be found here.
The fall season saw numerous broken records on both the individual and team sides for the Big Red. NU set new team highs in all three disciplines in the fall. The Huskers shot a new program-best aggregate score with a mark of 4,749 against Kentucky and Army on Oct. 25, 2025. Nebraska also shot program highs of 2,369 in the smallbore (Oct. 26) and 2,387 in the air rifle (Nov. 1).
Senior Emma Rhode broke the single-match individual air rifle record with her score of 600 in the air rifle, becoming the first athlete in school history to reach the perfect 600 mark. Freshman Carley Seabrooke broke the single match freshman record in the smallbore, with her score of 593 which she shot twice, against Kentucky, Mount Aloysius and Norwich on Oct. 26, and Schreiner on Nov. 2. Freshman Katlyn Sullivan shot a 599 in the air rifle, which broke the freshman record for a single match. Sullivan also shot this score twice, in the season opener against Ohio State, and against Schreiner on Nov. 2.
“We’re excited to get the spring season underway,” Head Coach Richard Clark said. “The team has been back in Lincoln for a little over a week and have been picking things up right where we left them in the fall. Kentucky and Alaska are very talented teams that will be a great test to compete with as we start our spring season. We are looking forward to two days of very close matches.”
The Big Red most recently competed against No. 1 Ole Miss and No. 14 Air Force on Nov. 22 at the Nebraska Rifle Range in Lincoln. The Huskers defeated the Rebels 4,743-4,712, and topped the Falcons, 4,743-4,705.
Alaska-Fairbanks enters the weekend with wins coming against No. 7 Ole Miss, No. 12 Ohio State, No. 12 Air Force and No. 16 Army, and losses at the hands of No. 4 TCU, No. 6 Navy and No. 8 Georgia Southern. Nebraska has competed against the Nanooks 42 times, notching just two wins, with its last win on Oct. 7, 2012, when the Huskers won on a tiebreaker after a 4,641-4,641 final score.
Kentucky comes in with wins against No. 3 West Virginia, No. 5 Memphis, No. 6 Navy and No. 12 Ohio State. Kentucky holds a 44-15 series advantage over NU. The Huskers most recently took down the Wildcats, 4,747-4,743 on Oct. 26.
Following the busy weekend, Nebraska will travel back to Lincoln for a pair of home matches against Jacksonville State on Saturday, Jan. 31 and Sunday, Feb. 1.
