Huskers Ink Five Star Katie Spencer

Nebraska women’s tennis head coach German Dalmagro announced the signing of Katie Spencer on Wednesday, as Spencer will join the team in 2026.

“I am super excited to add Katie to our Husker family this spring,” Dalmagro said. “It was evident during our conversations that Katie will be a great fit here. Katie has a great personality, is a great competitor, a hard worker, and wants to compete for the team. Those are things we look for in every recruit, and she has all those qualities and more. She’s an even better person, with high character and integrity, and I know she will represent Nebraska well!”

From Orlando, Fla., Spencer is a five-star recruit and is currently ranked #33, the highest ranked high school recruit in Nebraska history. She was ranked as high as #11 in the country. Spencer is NU’s first five-star signing since 2018 when the Huskers signed Jessica Aragon. Spencer is the eighth ranked recruit in the state of Florida. She competed in numerous ITF tournaments, highlighted by two doubles championships in 2025, at the Chestertown J100 and Orlando J60.

“Katie comes from a tennis family, with her dad being her coach and having played at a high level and her brother playing tennis at Navy, so her tennis IQ is high and she understands what it takes to play at the highest level,” Dalmagro said. “I know she will make an immediate impact on our team and will help us be a better team. We have a great group this year that I am very proud of, and Katie will fit in well with our team culture and how they all care about each other. I am very thankful to Jim (dad), Nicki (mom), and Katie for trusting me and our team to help her develop to be the best player and person she can be! Welcome to the good life, Katie!”

Spencer was recruited by multiple SEC and ACC schools but ultimately chose Nebraska.

“I chose the University of Nebraska because it truly felt like home from the moment I visited,” Spencer said. “The team culture, incredible coaching staff, and amazing facilities make it the perfect environment to develop as both a player and a person.”
