Big Red Hit the Road for a Weekend of Competition

The Nebraska swimming and diving teams are set to compete against the No. 23 Minnesota Gophers and the South Dakota Coyotes on Friday, Oct. 10, in Minneapolis, Minn., and travel to Ames, Iowa, on Saturday, Oct. 11, to face the Iowa State Cyclones. The double dual against the Gophers and Coyotes will be held at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center, while the meet with the Cyclones will be at the Iowa State Beyer Pool.  

The double dual is set to begin at 4 p.m. (CT) and the meet with the Cyclones is at 11 a.m. (CT). 

The Huskers hosted a double dual with South Dakota State and Omaha at the Devaney Natatorium on Friday, Oct. 3. Nebraska showed out to top the Jacks, 223-77, as well as the Mavs, 200-99. NU captured 11 title performances. 

Senior and two-time first-team All-American swimmer Gena Jorgenson led the team with a trio of first-place finishes in the 1,000 free, 200 back and the 200 IM. Beatrix Tanko, a junior from Budapest, Hungary, clinched first in the 50 free (23.24) and the 100 free (51.35). 

Nebraska took podium finishes in the 500 free with Marissa Laurin (5:03.89), Riley Miklos (5:06.51) and Aurora Zanin (5:10.75) taking first, second and third, respectively. Miklos, a sophomore out of Richmond, Va., added a first-place position in the 200 free with a time of 1:52.25. Giulia Marchi took second in the 200 free, nabbing a time of 1:52.89. 

Abby Baxter, a 2025 NCAA Championship qualifier, led NU in the diving well. Baxter took first on the one- and three-meter boards. She scored 292.95 on the one and 316.10 on the three. With scores of 296.60 and 261.25, senior Kelsey Clairmont took second on both boards. 

Last Meeting with Minnesota and South Dakota 
The Huskers hosted the double dual during the 2024-25 season at the Devaney Natatorium, where they defeated the Coyotes, 226-74, but fell to No. 24 Minnesota, 196-104. 

Jorgenson won three event titles in the 500 free (4:45.33), 1,000 free (10:02.71) and 200 back (2:01.53). 

Baxter added an NCAA standard of 285.25 to finish fourth on the one-meter board, while Clairmont provided a qualifying score of 270.70. 

Nebraska is undefeated over South Dakota, 8-0, while No. 23 Minnesota holds a 16-5 lead in the series. 

Last Meeting with Iowa State
Nebraska took 15 titles in a 202-94 win over the Cyclones during the 2024-25 season at the Devaney Natatorium. 

Jorgenson claimed three of her own titles in the 1,650 free (16:48.14), 500 free (4:59.39) and the 200 back (2:02.65). Tanko added titles with a win in the 200 freestyle (1:52.20) and the 100 butterfly (57.11).

Baxter swept the diving competition, scoring 308.25 on the one-meter and 308.48 on the three-meter.

The Big Red lead the series with 41 wins over the Cyclones and only four losses with one tie.
