The Nebraska men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to East Lansing, Mich., for the Big Ten Championships. Races are scheduled for 10:35 a.m. (CT) and 11:35 a.m. (CT) on October 31st. The men will race an 8k first followed by the women who will race a 6k.
Last Time Out
The Huskers last competed in Columbia, Mo. in the Pre-National Invitational. The men’s team finished 27th out of 32 teams in the 8k. Rico Leijenaar led the men in 72nd place with a time of 24:23.0. Denny Chapman (115th, 24:53.5) and Grant Wasserman (187th, 25:36.4) followed across the line. Gabe Nash (230th, 26:10.9) was fourth in Nebraska’s lineup and was followed closely by Jack Witte (246th, 26:53.4). Rounding off Nebraska's finishers was Riley Boonstra in 263rd place with a time of 28:02.9.
The women placed 18th out of 38 in the team competition. They were led by Ali Bainbridge who placed 24th with a time of 20:03.9. Alexandra Joyce was amongst the top 100 finishers in 96th place with a time of 21:03.3. Next to score for the women’s team was Alea Hardie (107th, 21:09.8) and Berlyn Schutz (135th, 21:21.9). Capping the scoring lineup for the Huskers was Jaylee Wingate in 195th with a time of 21:53.6.
Big Ten Championships Information
The 18 teams in the Big Ten will all travel to East Lansing, Michigan to compete in the Big Ten Championship race. Last year’s race was held at the University of Illinois. The 2024 men’s team title was won by Wisconsin, and Oregon took the women’s team title. In 2024 the Nebraska men took 14th out of 15 teams competing and the women brought home 11th out of 18 teams.
