Braden Frager scored nine of his 21 points in a 12-0 first-half run, as Nebraska overcame a slow start to down Midland, 91-50, Monday night in an exhibition game at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
Frager, a redshirt freshman from Lincoln Southwest, hit a trio of 3-pointers in a span of 1:40 as Nebraska turned an 18-16 advantage with just over nine minutes remaining in the half into a 14-point lead in a span 2:09 before extending the margin to 44-26 at the break.
Frager finished 6-of-12 from 3-point range, as Nebraska hit 15 3-pointers in the win and improved to 20-0 all-time against in-state opponents in exhibition play.
Pryce Sandfort was the only other Husker to finish in double figures, as he had 18 points, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range. In all, 13 of the 15 players who saw action broke into the scoring column while no Husker played more than 19 minutes.
Nebraska, which never trailed, scored the first seven points and built an early 12-4 lead in the first three minutes after Sandfort’s second 3-pointer of the game. The Warriors ran off six straight points and was within two points as the Huskers, who hit five of their first eight from the field cooled off before Frager took over.
The freshman hit three consecutive 3-pointers before a Berke Büyüktuncel basket stretched the lead to 30-16. Midland pulled to within nine on two occasions, the last being with 4:18 left in the half on a 3-poitner from Amari Rahaman but could get no closer. Sandfort keyed an 11-2 spurt over the final 4:02 to send the Huskers to the locker room with a 44-26 lead.
Sandfort, who played just 18 minutes, keyed an early second-half run, scoring seven straight points in a 13-0 spurt that gave NU a 59-30 lead after a Frager 3-pointer with 14:46 left. The Huskers out-scored Midland, 30-7 in the first nine minutes of the second half to build a 41-point cushion and cruised to the win.
Nick Dolezal led Midland with nine points, as Midland shot 32.8 percent from the field, including 4-of-26 from 3-point range.
