Haimes Rejoins Husker Swim as Graduate Assistant

Lincoln, Neb. - Former Husker freestyle and butterfly specialist Emily Haimes returns to the Nebraska swimming and diving team in her first season as a graduate assistant in 2025-26. Haimes was a significant contributor on Nebraska's relay teams during her three years Lincoln while also setting impressive standards in the classroom and community. 

Haimes etched her name into the Nebraska record book with her performance alongside Caitlin Cairns, JoJo Randby and Beatrix Tanko in the 200 medley relay at the 2024 Big Ten Championships with a time of 1:39.42. Their performance stands as the third fastest time in school history. In her early experience with NU, Haimes was a lead contributor in the 400-meter freestyle relay. The 2021-22 team of Lexi Kucera, JoJo Randby and Autumn Haebig owns the fifth-best time (3:19.36) in school history in the event. 

Individually, Haimes excelled in the 50 free, 100 free and 100 butterfly. In her second season at Nebraska in 2022-23, Haimes took third in the 100 fly (56.73) and fourth in the 50 free (24.30) against Minnesota and South Dakota. In the Hawkeye Invitational, Haimes added a 10th-place standing in the 100 freestyle (51.35) in her final season as a Husker. 

Haimes was not only an exceptional swimmer but also a model student and community member. Following the 2023-24 season, she was one of just nine Nebraska Outstanding Scholars across all Husker sports. An Academic All-District choice by the College Sports Communicators in both 2023 and 2024, Haimes was also a two-time Big Ten Distinguished Scholar and Academic All-Big Ten selection. A six-time member of the Nebraska Scholar-Athlete Honor Roll, Haimes earned a prestigious Sam Foltz 27 Hero Leadership Award in 2024 and was a two-time member of the Tom Osborne Citizenship Team (2023, 2024). 

Before coming to Nebraska, Haimes spent two seasons at West Virginia, where she claimed first-team All-Big 12 honors. She raced to a third-place finish in the 100 butterfly as a sophomore and a fourth-place finish in the 50 free as a freshman at the Big 12 Championships. She was also a member of the 200 free relay team that took runner-up honors at the 2021 Big 12 meet in a school-record 131.05. She also earned a third-place Big 12 finish as a member of the 400 free relay team in 2020. She added top-eight efforts in the 100 free (6th, 2021; 7th, 2020) and the 50 free (8th, 2021), while also winning the B final in the 100 fly in 2020. Her efforts as a freshman earned her a spot on the Big 12 All-Rookie Team.

Originally from Enfield, London, England, Haimes competed at Mount Kelly High School, where she raced to a silver medal and a pair of bronze medals at the 2019 British Summer Championships. 

Hamies earned her bachelor's degree as a double major in psychology and history from Nebraska in May 2024.
