Three Huskers Named All-Americans on Day One at NCAA Championships

Nebraska track and field opened the NCAA Indoor Championships Friday afternoon in Virginia Beach, Va., with three Huskers earning all-american honors. 

Two-time Big Ten silver medalist Henry Zimmerman earned his second-career first team all-american honor, throwing 22.71m (74-6 ¼) and finishing eighth. Zimmerman, the weight throw school-record holder, finished the indoor season with two event titles and a Big Ten Field Athlete of the Week honor. 

Pole Vaulter Dyson Wicker was the highest-performing freshman, finishing 11th (5.46m, 17-11) and garnering second team all-american honors in his first NCAA Championships. Big Ten silver medalist Wicker holds the second-highest pole vault mark in school history and was named a conference Big Ten Freshman of the Week.  

In her third NCAA Championships appearance, Lishanna Ilves jumped 6.15m (20-2 ¼) to finish 13th and earn her third-career second team all-american honor. The senior from Koeru, Estonia, was the Big Ten bronze medalist in the long jump and owns the fourth-farthest mark in school history. 

NCAA Indoor Championships will continue tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. (CT). Jenna Rogers, Mason Kooi and Tyus Wilson will be Nebraska’s first competitors of the day, competing in the high jump at approx. 11 a.m. (CT).
