Posting its highest score of the season, the No. 13 Nebraska rifle team topped No. 15 UTEP, 4,720-4,672, Sunday afternoon in Lincoln.
The Big Red placed four shooters in the top five overall. Junior Emma Rhode took first place after an impressive day with a personal-best aggregate score of 1,190. Freshman Maddy Moyer grabbed second place with a score of 1,181, while Alivia Perkins (fourth, 1,173) and Camilla Johannessen (fifth, 1,172) finished out the top five placements.
Rhode won all three events on the day, as she posted the second-highest mark in program history in smallbore with a score of 594 and won the air rifle with a mark of 596.
“It’s always a good day when there are new PRs and season highs,” said Coach Richard Clark. “It was very entertaining to watch the team compete today. Emma and Maddy setting new individual PRs in smallbore as well as aggregates was very exciting. As a team, being one point off a season high in smallbore and setting a new season high in air, as well as having all five athletes above the 590 mark was great. Across the board we are rising to the challenge and starting to see the work we’ve been putting in show itself. We are excited to carry today’s performance with us as we close out our fall season next week in Ohio.”
In the air rifle, NU took three of the top five spots on the way to a season-high team score of 2,377. In addition to Rhode, Perkins placed third with a score of 595 while Grace Corbett placed fifth with a mark of 594. Johannessen (sixth, 592) and Moyer (seventh, 590) rounded out the lineup for the Big Red.
Nebraska also grabbed three of the top five spots in the smallbore. Rhode placed first with her 594, followed by Moyer, who was second with a personal-best 591, with Johannessen in fifth place with a score of 580. Perkins (sixth, 578) and Riley Dunn (10th, 570) finished out the lineup for the Huskers in the smallbore.
Nebraska will hit the road again next weekend as the team will travel to Columbus, Ohio, to take on No. 9 Ohio State on Saturday, Nov. 16, before heading to Akron, Ohio, to take on No. 12 Akron on Nov. 17 in what will be the Huskers’ final match of the fall.
