NU Looks Ahead to Road Match Against Air Force & UTEP

The No. 13 Husker rifle team will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., to take on No. 7 Air Force and No. 19 UTEP on Saturday, Oct. 12. The match is slated to start at 9:30 a.m. (CT).

Nebraska downed No. 10 Memphis 4,709-4,687, in its season opener on Oct. 5, where the team also tied the third-highest smallbore score in school history with a 2,345. Junior team captain Emma Rhode shot a personal-best 593 in the smallbore and placed first in the event. Rhode currently owns the highest smallbore score in the nation. Her score against Memphis tied the second-highest individual smallbore score in program history. Rhode also placed first overall with an aggregate score of 1,187. Freshman Alivia Perkins earned third (1,175), and Maddy Moyer placed fifth (1,172).

“It’s been a great week,” Coach Richard Clark said. “The team has shown up each day extremely focused and ready to work leading to what I’d say has been our best week of practice so far this year. They were able to get a few of the kinks worked out from last weekend and reconfirm a lot of the good, putting themselves in a good spot to go out and perform. The progress and growth each of them has shown so far this year makes me excited to watch them compete this weekend.”

This will be the season opener for both Air Force and UTEP.

The Big Red has faced Air Force 53 times since 2000, and Nebraska has won 31 of those matches. Most recently, NU faced Air Force at the NCAA Championships on Mar. 8 and 9, 2024, where Air Force placed fifth (4,709) and Nebraska placed eighth (4,680).

The Huskers have faced UTEP 24 times since 2000, and have won 19 of those matches. The two teams played most recently at the PRC Championships on Feb. 3 and 4, 2024. NU placed fourth (4,711) and UTEP placed sixth (4,568).

Following the match with the Falcons and the Miners, Nebraska will travel to Annapolis, Md. to face off with No. 6 Ole Miss and No. 8 Navy on Saturday, Oct. 19.
