The annual Leadership and Involvement Fair hosted by the Nebraska Life Skills team proved to be an engaging event for student-athletes. On Monday, February 12th, second year student-athletes learned about the importance of getting involved with organizations here in Lincoln. The Leadership and Involvement Fair is part of the annual 4-year tiered events, which provides support and resources to student athletes looking to get involved with volunteer organizations in the community.
Monday’s fair on the fourth floor of Memorial Stadium was required for all second year athletes and began with a panel moderated by Assistant Director of Life Skills, Kate Frazier. Three panelists contributed to the discussion of getting involved within the Lincoln community. Nebraska Alum, Marissa Popoola, and two senior student athletes, Micayln Moore and Clara Colombo, shared their personal experiences with outreach and involvement during their time at the University of Nebraska.
In addition, student-athletes were able to meet and introduce themselves to twenty different organizations within the community. These community organizations were able to inform student athletes of their mission and details of how to get involved in their events. Panelist and Nebraska alum, Marissa Popoola shared, “ It's so important for student-athletes to see what's available to them and make an impact in the community. Not only are we gaining personal skills from these organizations, but we are setting up a brighter future for ourselves after sport”.
