Huskers in the Pros: Oct. 16

Throughout the season, Huskers.com will provide updates of the nearly two dozen former Nebraska men’s basketball players playing around the world. 

Thorir Thorbjarnarson has enjoyed a strong start playing in his native Iceland for Tindastoll. Over the weekend, he posted a triple double in his team’s 105-88 win with 28 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in 36 minutes of action to earn game MVP honors. Thorbjarnarson, who played at NU from 2018-21, has enjoyed a strong start in helping Tindastoll to a 2-0 start, averaging 23.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 7.0 assists per game. 

Another Husker enjoying a strong first season for his new home is James Palmer Jr., who helped Turk Telekom Ankara to a 79-77 win over Buducnost in the Eurocup with 16 points, four rebounds and three assists. Palmer, who played in France last season, followed up with 15 points on in 73-60 win over Contemporary Bodrum Sports on Sunday in the Turkish Super Lig, as Turk Telekom Ankara is 2-1 in league action. Palmer played at Nebraska for two seasons before playing in the G League and overseas.

A pair of Huskers are together in the German BBL in Glynn Watson Jr. (2016-19) and Sam Griesel (2023). On Sunday, the team advanced in the BBL Cup with an 80-79 win. Watson had eight of his points in the fourth quarter to lead a comeback as he finished with 21 points and eight assists, while Griesel had four points. On the season, Watson is averaging 16.7 points, 6.0 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game, while Griesel is averaging 4.0 points and 2.7 rebounds in his first professional season.
