Huskers Close Exhibition Play with 2-0 Shutout

Lincoln, Neb. – In its final exhibition game of the year, the Nebraska soccer team defeated Oklahoma 2-0 on Friday night at Hibner Stadium in front of 901 fans.

The Husker offense was in control the first half and found the back of the net in the 38th minute. Audra Clark drove the ball across the pitch into the goal box, freshman Kayma Carpenter met the ball with a header and found the top right corner of the net.

After an impressive first half where the Huskers led in shots (12-3), shots on goal (5-0) and corners (2-0), NU entered halftime with the 1-0 advantage.

In the second half, the momentum continued for NU and Sarah Weber scored her second goal in exhibition play this season with a finish in the 59th minute. Weber dribbled into the penalty box and took a shot that went past the diving Oklahoma goalie and into the net.

Sami Hauk and Cece Villa combined for the shutout and collected two saves on the night.

Overall, the Big Red outshot the Sooners by a wide margin, 20-8. NU also held the 10-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Up next, the Huskers open their regular season against Creighton on the road in Omaha next Thursday, Aug. 17 at 6:00 p.m. (CT).
