Nebraska track and field kicked off the annual Drake Relays on Thursday in Des Moines, Iowa with strong distance performances.
Bailey Timmons cut 10 seconds off his previous personal-best 5000m time to win his section with a 14:03.40. That brings Timmons to fourth on the all-time list.
Taya Skelton ran a personal-best 10:30.60 in the 3000m steeplechase, finishing seventh. That time moves Skelton to seventh in school history. Cami Merickel pitched in a personal-best 10:44.16 to place 13th.
Sam Easley clocked a 1:51.29 in the 800m to finish 12th. Emma Ralston covered the track in 36:49.72, placing 15th in the 10000m.
In the 1500m, Cal Puskar placed 21st with a 3:55.19 and Jacquelyn Abanses finished 22nd with a 4:34.22.
Nebraska returns to action at the Drake Relays tomorrow at 10:15 a.m., starting with the triple jump.
