Lincoln, Neb. - The No. 13 Nebraska rifle team will have its first home matches of the season against No. 11 Air Force on Oct. 22 and 23.
Both matches are set to start at 8 a.m., and fans can follow along with live results at https://results.megalink.no/#!/.
The Huskers are 2-0 on the season so far and have defeated No. 17 The Citadel and No. 15 Georgia Southern.
Last weekend, two Nebraska freshmen tied the Husker air rifle record of 597 – Emma Rhode against the Bulldogs and Vittoria Watts against the Eagles. They now join the company of Rachel Martin (2014), Hannah Virga (2015), Elena Flake (2019), Emily Cheramie (2020) and Cecelia Ossi (2022) at the top of the record books.
"USAF should be a strong competitor for the team's first home match this weekend," said Head Coach Mindy Miles. "The matches this weekend gives us two opportunities to show up and post a strong score. I'm excited to see how much more the team can push themselves after last weekend."
In Nebraska's match against The Citadel, Rhode (1,187), Watts (1,178), junior Madelynn Erickson (1,176) and freshman Camilla Johannessen (1,162) placed in the top four spots overall. Rhode took first place in the smallbore (590) and the air rifle (597).
In the team's match against Georgia Southern, Erickson placed second overall (1,174), while Rhode (1,172) and Watts (1,172) placed third and fourth, respectively. Erickson placed first in the smallbore (582), and Watts placed first in the air rifle (597). Jacksonville State was also at the match.
The Air Force Falcons are currently 2-3 on the season, with two wins against unranked UTEP and losses coming from No. 3 TCU and No. 5 West Virginia. The Huskers are 26-15 all time against Air Force, with their most recent win coming on March 12, 2021.
Following the matches against the Falcons, Nebraska will go back on the road for competition against No. 7 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio.
