Hardie Wins Greeno/Dirksen Invite

Freshman Alea Hardie covered the course in 16:57.9 to win the women's 5K at the Greeno/Dirksen Invite on Saturday morning at the Mahoney Golf Course in Lincoln. Hardie is the first Husker women's runner to win the Greeno/Dirksen Invite since Anna Peer in 2014. 

Hardie's first-place run is her second consecutive win to start her collegiate career after winning the Augustana Twilight in the season opener.

The Huskers finished runner-up in the women's team standings with 59 points, five points shy of first-place K-State. The Nebraska men placed fourth as a team with 109 total points.

Brynna McQuillen was the second Husker in the top 10, running a 17:49.5 to place seventh. Following McQuillen, Taya Skelton and Hannah Godwin finished 14th and 16th with runs of 18:04.7 and 18:10.2, respectively. Lindsey Blehm rounded out the scoring for the Huskers with a 21st-place finish and a time of 18:18.8.

Bailey Timmons led the Nebraska men, placing 21st with a time of 24:56.1. Cal Puskar posted a time of 25:20.5 to finish 38th, edging Jerry Jorgenson in 39th-place with a run of 25:20.7. Trevor Acton clocked a 25:24.3 to cross the finish line in 44th, while Colby Erdkamp covered the course in 25:35.5 to place 49th.

Nebraska is off next weekend and returns to action at the Joe Piane Invitational hosted by Notre Dame on Friday, Sept. 30 in South Bend, Ind.
