Piscataway, N.J. - The Nebraska women's tennis team (11-8, 4-3 Big Ten) defeated Rutgers (5-12, 0-6 Big Ten) 4-0 Saturday morning at the Rutgers Tennis Complex.
The Huskers started off strong in doubles competition. In the No. 3 spot, Ellie Kuckelman and Samantha Alicea took the match over Rutgers, 6-3. Also defeating the Scarlet Knights on Court One was Kristina Novak and Maja Makroic, 6-3. In the No. 2 spot, Chloe Kuckelman and Isabel Adrover Gallego's 5-4 battle against Jackie Lopez and Krsitiana Zahare resulted in an unfinished match.
To start singles play, Novak played in the No. 1 spot sweeping Fisher, 6-4, 6-0. Adrover Gallego followed suit in the No. 3 spot with a 6-1, 6-3 win. At the No. 2 spot, Makoric fell short in the first set against Lopez, ending the match unfinished. Alicea competed in the No. 4 spot against Rutgers' Kim battling a three-set match that went unfinished. Ellie, playing in the No. 5 spot, won 6-2, 6-2 to clinch the conference win for the Huskers. In the No. 6 spot, Sandberg overcame the first set 6-4, leaving the match unfinished.
Up next, the Huskers will stay on the road and face Maryland on Sunday, April 10 at 10 a.m. CT.
